Loretta is a 2 year old Bichon weighing about 13 lbs. She is a puppy mill survivor. She was cosigned to a dog breeder auction and Leia's Hope secured her freedom.

Loretta did not have a great start in life and came to Leia's Hope a scared little girl that would nip out of fear and run and hide. She is doing much better now but still scared with new people and situations. From what we could find on her first and second breeder is they were not the kindest and handled dogs roughly.

Loretta is learning the ways to trust and be a beloved family member. She likes to hang out in her crate with the door opened and doing well on pottying on potty pads. The yard is still very scary to her and when she goes outside in a fenced in yard, her foster stays with her and keeps her on a long lead leash so she doesn't run off and she can get her to go back inside. The periods outside started out short and she has been gaining some trust outside, though she is still very scared.

Loretta loves other dogs and will play with them and is learning a lot from them. She will need to continue her education with a confident dog in her next home. She will also need a home without small children (younger than 10) as she can be nippy when scared and we do not want a child to get bit. If you have young children that visit, but do not stay for long periods, that will likely be ok as long as Loretta can be introduced slowly and allowed to be alone when overwhelmed.

Loretta is a BIG flight risk and will require a secure physical fenced yard that is attached to the house (no outside pens). She will go home with her martingale collar that will keep her safe when outside the home.

Loretta's adoption fee is $365. She is spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped and on flea and heart worm prevention. Visit leiashope.org for an application.

WE DO ADOPT OUT OF THE AREA, HOWEVER, WE DO NOT SHIP NOR ARRANGE TRANSPORTS. YOU WILL HAVE TO COME TO DECATUR, IL TO MEET THE DOG. IF FLYING, DOGS MUST FLY IN THE CABIN AND THE EXPENSE OF THE HEALTH CERTIFICATE IS ON THE ADOPTER.

THE APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BEFORE WE CAN START THE PROCESS.

IT CAN TAKE AT LEAST 7 DAYS TO PROCESS AN APPLICATION SOMETIMES LONGER DEPENDING ON VOLUNTEER AVAILABILITY AND NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED SO PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE ARE VOLUNTEERS WITH FAMILIES AND FULL TIME JOBS AND DOGS OF OUR OWN TO CARE FOR.

IF INTERESTED IN A PUPPY (UNDER 9 MONTHS): YOU MUST HAVE A FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE OR SOMEONE HOME ALL DAY. PUPPIES NEED TO BE LET OUT TO POTTY OFTEN, THEY NEED SOCIALIZATION AND BONDING AND NEED TRAINING (HOUSETRAINING AND BEHAVIORAL TRAINING). IF YOU WORK LONG HOURS, HAVE A BUSY SOCIAL SCHEDULE OR NOT FINANCIALLY SECURE THEN A PUPPY IS NOT FOR YOU.
