Loki Border Collie Mix Thousand Oaks, CA

Loki is a 3-year-old Border Collie mix currently being held at the Kern County Animal Services - Bakersfield Shelter. He has been at the shelter since December 17, 2024, and is ready for his new home.

Loki went out on the streets of Bakersfield, a foster for a day program. Here are his notes: "Loki ID #A1214982 is a good boy. We took him out for a couple of hours during the “Streets of Bakersfield” event. Loki was excellent at bath time at the spa and with children. He has a calm demeanor but is obviously sad he is at the shelter. He did loosen up as the day went on. Don’t hesitate, Loki will make a great addition to your family."

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for high risk dogs, The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.

Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks.
