Meet Lobo! Lobo is a super handsome 1 year old (maybe even a little less) German Shepherd/Husky mix who joined the HPR family earlier in October. He was originally adopted from Athens Clarke County Animal Control during the summer, but his new family returned him after a few months because he was too much energy for them and their young kids and they reported that he showed some mild resource guarding. Since we brought him into our rescue, he has been doing great and has proven that he's a really fun guy!

He still has a lot to learn, but he is adapting well so far to his new foster home that includes another young German Shepherd, 2 cats, and several young adults. We have not seen any resource guarding issues at home, and have been doing hand feeding training with him which has been doing wonders to help build his confidence and teach him good self-control. Lobo LOVES other dogs and especially his foster brother Marko! He has been evaluated for daycare and is learning how to play with lots of different dogs (and also how to respect dogs that don't want to play). We think he would probably do best in a home that has a playful dog that is able to keep up with him.

He has just started on his basic obedience and house training, but he's a smart guy, so he should have those basic skills down in no time. So far, he has started to respond to "sit", but he will be learning "down," "wait," and "come" along the way. He is already potty trained and we are working with him on his crate training. He will settle down in there eventually, but he can also be anxious and vocal at first or if he starts to get bored. He is currently living with two cats, and enjoys them, but is a little unsure how to interact with them which is fine - a healthy respect of feline friends is what you want with big dogs. He loves people and aims to please, but he is also a little shy of people at first meeting.
Since he has been moved around so much from person to person, that's not unexpected, but he is making huge strides with his confidence.

Germand Shepherds and Huskies are both confident, strong breeds, so he needs a home that is prepared for the training and structure needed to successfully work with that temperament and someone who is willing to give him the energy outlet he needs.
