Meet Lionel

Meet Lionel, named because of his lion's mane! He is a 1 year old, 45 pound German Shepherd that is the happiest, most squeaky-toy obsessed boy you will meet. He has something called bilateral straight leg syndrome, which means his back legs don't bend at all. However this doesn't hinder him and he really has no idea he is different than any other dog. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, and microchipped.

Lionel loves his dog friends and enjoys being outside wrestling, chasing squeaky balls, and drinking from the kiddie pool! With his condition, he has the cutest little hop, but let us tell you, it doesn't slow him down! He is a very vocal boy and would do best in a house versus in an apartment. He's got a voice and he's gonna use it! With straight leg syndrome, Lionel does best on carpet or rugs. He loses his footing easily on hard floors which can freak him out a little and he may need help getting back up. We want to make sure that his future home truly is the best situation for him, so we're being particular about living situations.

He is house and kennel trained and does well on a leash. He is unsure of new situations but adjusts well. He can get nervous in the car and drool a little, but it's nothing a towel or blanket can't solve.

This furry guy lives with foster siblings of all sizes and loves everyone. He also lives with cats and doesn't understand why they don't want to play. If adopted into a home with a cat, he will need a confident cat, willing to teach him some rules, and a family that will understand that he will torment the cat, but not out of meanness, just an obsession to play. Lionel hasn't been around kids but should do well with them.

Straight leg syndrome doesn't require any medications but it also won't ever improve. As he ages, he will likely experience some arthritis, but would like to believe those types of issues are well down the road for this boy. Lionel remaining active will help him and his condition.

If you think Lionel may be a good fit for your family and he will be welcomed as a true member of your family, you can send inquiries to our director of adoptions at muttmisfitsadoptions@yahoo.com or apply to meet / adopt at www.muttmisfits.org/adoption-application!
