Meet Linus

Adorable Linus is ready to find his forever family.

Born May 6/22, Linus is a 3 month black Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever mix (Mom is a black Lab/ Golden mix, Dad unknown)

Linus is scheduled Nov 17th for his neuter surgery (at our expense) which is pending due to his young age, and his contract will require his new family to return him to our vet located in Arthur ON, at our expense, for his surgery.

His adoption contract also requires registration with an approved trainer to set him and his new family up for success.

Linus is an exuberant puppy who adores people and other dogs (no exposure to cats/not recommended)
He is being fostered in a home with other dogs and is still learning that they don't always want to play and he isn't quite there yet with respecting their desire to not be wrestling and bounced on so his foster does give him alone time with chewies and mental stimulation games and toys to help him learn how to amuse himself as well in between dog interaction play time.

Linus is a typical puppy who tries to use his mouth when excited and is learning to be redirected to toys and chewies instead of arms/ankles and dog ears, still in that nippy stage of learning appropriate play styles.

He seldom has an accident in the house if the caregiver is diligent.
He has an open crate and wanders in and out throughout the day as he wishes. At night he goes willingly and the door is closed until morning to keep him safe from exploring and getting into mischief.

STRENGTHS/AREAS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ON: Comes, likes cuddles, plays well with balls and chew toys. Will accept something to chew instead of your arm.

TRANSPORTATION? Sometimes whines and barks, and may get a little nauseated so we withhold feeding a bit before/after.

He's a puppy that loves to sleep under your chair and be near you. He would love another playful dog that is tolerant of his puppy age and energy, but is also happy if he is the only dog.

ANYTHING TO ADD? Play toys are used often. He's chewy so needs supervision with stuffies. Will now grab things from edge of table or counter. Chair legs are fair game if foster isn't watching.
He is crated when alone for his safety.
Regular bathroom breaks still needed throughout the day to continue with his housetraining success.
Lots of naps as required for any young growing puppy. Diversion and reading his body language is important when he is overstimulated/over tired to help distract and redirect him, and help him learn how to self settle for much needed quiet time/rest.

BED TIME HABITS? Crated in my room beside me. No whining or balking. Very sleepy and happy to go to crate

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
, or on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites.

Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.
Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
