Meet Libby

Libby is a sweet, 5 yr female (spayed) Cocker/Poodle mix

Libby had her liberty ride, along with two of her remaining unsold puppies on July 7th into Hobo Haven Rescue after spending her life as a breeding dog for a backyard breeder.

Libby has blossomed in her foster home! She loves human interaction, in fact "Let's agree that you shouldn't stop petting me".
She likes the other dogs, is curious about the cats while remaining respectful, loves being outside, is finding couches and beds to be completely amazing and is generally loving life. She's no longer the scared little girl who just tried to be largely unnoticed. Now, she's seeking out interactions with us and that tail doesn't stop wagging. She is a total lovebug.

Libby would love someone who is home most of the day, and would thrive with a suitable canine companion, though if her human was home often she would be ok as an only dog as well.

YOUR FOSTER DOG'S ENERGY LEVEL: Medium
She can walk approximately 1-2 kilometres well and does well on a leash. We play with her outside for 1-2 hours a day and do some indoor training as well. She’s very smart and has a good level of energy.

IS YOUR FOSTER DOG FOOD MOTIVATED? She has learned to sit for treats and will start to get excited around meal times. Human food should be kept well away from her, we always eat at a table, as she thinks she should be sharing when she smells yummy food smells.

Libby arrived obese and is working on her weight loss program. Her new family must be committed to continuing with portion control and helping her achieve her ideal weight.

GOOD WITH DOGS? Absolutely she’s been amazing with our lab and the other pup we are fostering.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO DOGS MET ON WALKS? Basically ignores them - she isn’t too interested in other dogs outside of her foster companions.
Generally doesn’t pay attention to anyone other than her foster family and foster brother on walks, but Libby is very friendly with everyone who visits. Can take some time to trust but once she does she’s all over people for pets and snuggles.

She will sometimes bark if someone comes onto the front porch.

She doesn’t use a crate. We use gates to keep her safe when we leave her and she’s fine with that approach.

She doesn’t like being left alone and may cry a bit but she gets over it fairly quickly.

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S LEASH SKILLS. She’s great on her leash with a harness

PERSONALITY? Shy but very friendly once she knows you - she wants all of the snuggles

THINGS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT? Generally nothing. Once in awhile she forgets to ask to go outside but as long as we make sure to take her out often it’s fine.

She’s starting to like her toys and be interested in playing

POTTY HABITS: She’s now trained and goes outside. Holds it overnight but generally we make sure to take her out every 2 hours or so during the day

BED TIME HABITS? Sleeps on the bed with humans. May lick fingers and face while you’re sleeping :)

Libby will need patience during her transition, no loud noises at first (no young children). Let her explore on her own terms and she’ll adapt really quickly. She gets warm easily so air conditioning is helpful.

STRENGTHS/AREAS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ON: Less reactive to noise, less fearful, eats better, comfortable in her own skin.
TRANSPORTATION? She does well in the car in her seatbelt. Some panting from anxiety but does better with her Cbd oil

Notes:
*Children must be older, respectful and dog savvy
* Libby would like another suitable canine companion in her home but not young puppies.
*Must be located within Ontario Canada
*Inground/ground level Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require in person meetings in St Jacobs ON
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs after you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs. Adoptions within Ontario only

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application

Libby's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $650
Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, bloodwork, age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, dental cleaning/extractions as needed, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, and all vet care, food and supplies during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
, or on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites.
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
