Meet Levon

Levon is a handsome, loyal and loving 15-month-old neutered and chipped male mix of Australian Cattledog, American Staffordshire Terrier and German Shepherd. He is a wonderful companion, best pal, wet-nose buddy kind of dog. At 42 pounds he stands 24 inches tall at the shoulder and is house trained. He sleeps happily in his crate at night, knows basic tricks – sit, paw, down, and, not as reliably, stay and rollover - and loves his immediate “people family.” His chew toys, tug toys, toss toys, bubbles, sticks and balls are his favorite possessions. While he will play on his own, he will also recruit his people to join him. He will flop joyfully for tummy, chest or head rubs. There is nothing better than a ride in the car to a park to romp, roll or relax in the grass! He loves to explore new trails and discover new scents. Levon is eager to meet other dogs, especially those who will play. He is intrigued by children but has had little close-up experience.

Levon has some anxiety which is well managed by medication, especially as he matures. He loves the people he knows well, but new people he meets should be patient with him and not assume he will be comfortable the first visit. His separation anxiety is improving. If he is free to roam a safe area, as opposed to being crated, he does much better but has not been left for long periods of time. He is much more street-confident now that he is older but the sound of a garbage truck will cause him to alert and, if close by, will make him anxious.

The ideal setting for Levon:

Levon would do best in a home situation with patient owners. Another dog would be a big plus. A home more “country” in nature or in a quieter neighborhood would serve him well. A secure yard for exercise and play would be ideal. Because his separation training is still a work in progress, a work-at-home, self-employment, part-time or retirement situation would be excellent. A mix of owner presence, day care or a trusted friend’s care would also meet his needs.

Levon is a wonderful boy and will become someone’s “best dog ever!”
