He did test positive for Lyme, a non-contagious tick-borne diseases. He was given the Lyme vaccine, which will help keep the Lyme dormant. The Lyme will remain with Levi for the remainder of his life. A yearly Lyme vaccine will help keep the disease dormant. Should a flare-up occur, it will be noted by joint pain/inflammation and lethargy.
Typically, a dose of antibiotics will be enough to cause the disease to go dormant again. If Levi should have several flare-ups, in a short amount of time, it could potentially affect his kidney function. Lyme has become more prevalent in the Kentucky/West Virginia area where we pull most of our dogs. Thus far, everyone adopted has gone on to live happy healthy lives.
Levi is good with other dogs and is your typical sweet friendly beagle, he wrestles and chases the other 2 dogs at the fosters’ house. He is a bit shy of new places at first, but quickly acclimates after a short while.
He is a laid back pup and will not need daily walks, but would prefer a fenced yard to roam and sniff.
He gets along well with children. He rides well in the car, prefers sitting on someone lap but would be fine on a seat. He is a quiet dog, unusual for a beagle, but will bark at the fence line when there is a dog on the other side.
He knows a couple of commands like sit and is food driven so should be easily trained.
Levi is going to be a low maintenance dog and likes to be next to his human if not playing with other dogs. You will need to be happy with him being on the couch with you, as he is a great cuddlier and prefers that activity above all except playing with dogs and eating.
He’ll sit with his head on your shoulder for a whole movie and more. He sleeps in bed with his foster and hardly a moves all night.
Levi weighs 25 pounds and 13 inches at the shoulders and is 3 years old.
He is house trained, has never had an accident in the house or car even though he is not crated. He will go into a crate with a treat incentive in case you are not comfortable leaving him out, but a crate is not needed.
Levi would be a great companion pup that will be easy to have around.
