Letty Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix Troy, VA

My name is Letty and I am a Catahoula Leopard Dog. Catahoula's (a/k/a Houla's) are a pretty incredible breed. We were created specifically to hunt wild boar. There aren't too many wild boar running through the woods of Virginia, so I guess I will settle for playing ball or tug, or really whatever your favorite game is.

It also happens that I am deaf. Basically this just means you can sing at the top of your lungs and I won't judge you. I'm not too judgy anyway but your off key or out of rhythm singing will roll off my back like water off a duck.

I'm about a year old and still quite a puppy. I love toys and romps, and love to go for walks. I get along with most dogs but I do not like them eating my food so my foster mom feeds me in my crate. I am, so they say, "pushy" with other dogs but mostly that's because no one ever told me not to be. I already know many basic commands like sit, down, stay, and come, using hand signals. I am housebroken, crate trained, and walk decently well with a gentle leader, but will need continued work with this. I am a very typical Houla girl, who needs a dog savvy owner who will practice good human/canine relationship boundaries, and 'Nothing In Life is Free' positive reinforcement methods. If you will take me to a positive reinforcement training class, I would really appreciate it, as I want to 'do the right things'. I just need to be taught what those are.

I am very strictly crate trained and sleep through the night with no problems. I'm also up to date on vaccines and have been spayed, so no babies for me! Who has time for that mess ?. Also, I have been real good with kids, and would LOVE a kid to play with, but am also totally okay with an active adult. I'm okay cats but do like to play chase when they run.

I'm being fostered in Zion's Crossroads VA. I am up-to-date on vaccines, am heartworm neg [and on prevention], am spayed and had a recent negative fecal test. All-in-all, I think that I am an amazing example of what a Catahoula should be . . . Intelligent, loving, driven, and respectful.

We are happy to consider applicants from out of state. However, if the applicant is approved, they must be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time.

GDU does ask a minimum adoption donation of 300.00. This is a minimum donation and does not cover all expenses, as we are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum donation includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. This minimum donation does not even begin to cover the actual expenses each animal has while in rescue, but does go directly towards vet care for our rescue animals. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well.
