Meet Leo

Sweet Leo was born Mid February, 2022. His previous owners were told his mom was a Treeing Walker Coonhound mix, and we suspect he has some Great Dane heritage also. Whatever the mix, he’s gorgeous and even tempered.

He’s a beautiful big affectionate puppy, He’s very devoted to his ‘person’ (currently foster mom). She works from home and he sleeps next to her chair while she works. See pic. He is good with kids, but because of his size we recommend only older kids.

He LOVES playing with other dogs, so his ideal home will have a younger doggy sibling and a fenced yard.

He definitely has hound characteristics: soft ears, easy disposition, good with all sizes of people, playful with all dogs he’s met. However, he doesn’t ‘follow his nose’ on walks like a hound does.

He is great walking on a retractable leash. He looks like a Dane MIX and he trots like a proud Dane with head held high, with some sniffs along the way. He is already 24 inches tall and a too thin 55 pounds at 6 months. He has a dog door at his foster home and he has not had any potty accidents there. He’s left out of crate with the other dogs and he hasn’t chewed anything.

He is crated only at night, in the master bedroom so he doesn’t get lonely. The crate is to keep him from joining foster mom and dad, and their 2 other dogs, in bed. He really wants to sleep in bed, but 5 is a crowd.

Sweet Leo was adopted at 6 weeks into a home with young kids, who he loved dearly. The family took care of his needs, but didn’t really have time for him. Baby Leo was crated all day and sometimes again in the evenings due to kids’ extracurricular activities.

When he was out he wanted to play! They said he chewed kids toys, but I suspect he couldn’t distinguish them from his own toys. They had a small fenced yard and he had never been walked on a leash. He did have an older Lab mix that he played with and chased when they weren’t crated.

Leo was surrendered to HART, because they recognized he needed more attention and exercise than he was getting. Are you looking for some fun with a very devoted big boy? Leo has a lot of love to share.

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks.

If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks! www.rescueAhart.org
