Introducing Larry from the great state of South Carolina. Larry is your typical older fella, very active until about noon, then he likes to take it easy the rest of the day. He digs toys of all shapes and sizes, posing for the camera and loves to play hatch, that’s a game we came up with where you throw the ball across the yard and he runs after it, picks it up, takes a few steps and drops it and waits for you to come get it and throw it again…half-fetch=hatch. He’s a work in progress, what can I say. Larry has a wonderful appetite and has yet to meet a treat he doesn’t like. He is very apprehensive around cats at first but as long as they don’t try to chase him or beat him up, he’ll be just fine. He is a quiet contemplator and by quiet, I mean he rarely barks and even when he does, it’s not at all loud or obnoxious.

Larry was rescued by ACDRA along with his 12 siblings. We don’t know much about their background but can see they’ve had little socialization with people. Larry is certainly comfortable around other dogs even though is nervous first meeting them. Larry’s new family will need to have patience while he acclimates to his new home. For example, he will need to get familiar with small spaces in the house before feeling comfortable in the entire house. He will need to get used to slow and structured interactions with people. He will need work on leash in your backyard, before venturing out into the neighborhood. For this reason, a quiet rural neighborhood or fenced suburban home would be best.

Being one of many dogs in a hoarding situation has left Larry with a very small view of the world. He needs an owner who is willing to take things exceptionally slow with him, so slow that ignoring him and letting him just hang out in plain sight is really what this dude needs to build up the courage to show you what a great guy he is. Larry needs to learn all these new things at his own pace. He is super shy and would rather be a fly on the wall in your house then all up in your face. He plays well with other dogs and would do exceptionally well in a home with other confident dogs that he can bond with and that can be his strength when things get scary and bravery escapes him.

Larry would do best in a home with older kids (teenagers). He is 8 years old, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative and ready to move onto the next chapter of his life and settle in at your house.
