Lady Bug's Story

Lady was an owner surrender to the New York York Animal Care Centers due to moving. Those owners had her since she was a puppy. They also said that she lived with two adults and was friendly with them and strangers and with other dogs.

At the shelter she was very stressed and anxious. Her time was coming to an end whereby she was slated for euthanasia due to overcrowding.

Two wonderful people stepped up to save her life.

These are LADYBUG'S STATS:

Approximate age 3y

Approximate weight 70lbs

Breed (s)

Mixed black mouth cur Mix

Spayed or neutered? Older kids over 13 would be great. She plays rough and loves other dogs so would do well with another dog who enjoys face biting and chase games. I don’t know if she would be good with cats so do not recommend.

Lady loves her toys, sticks, and balls and loves the squeaky toys!! And she loves loves going on hikes and playing with other dogs even more. Ladybug will wag her tail happily and prance when she gets to play with other games and loves games of chase. Also, when she first sees you, she throws her head towards you excitedly and asks for all the cuddles and pets and licks your face and hands all over.

Lady has tendencies of having Resource Guarding around bowls, toys, and outside - particularly, sticks other dogs have. When overaroused / overtired, can be just a bit snappy. This will have to be something to be worked on

Ladybug (or Lady as she came to us) is a 3-year-old, 70lb black mouth cur mix who’s full of life, love, and adventure. She loves wagging her tail like it’s a full time job. Ladybug is very affectionate!! When she sees someone she loves, she pushes her head toward them for pets and belly rubs, and she greets the world with joyful prancing and a whole lot of tail wags.

She’s so spirited and fun. Ladybug is the perfect adventure buddy. She lives for hikes, squeaky toys, and any game involving chase. She plays hard, especially with other dogs who match her rough-and-tumble style—face biting, zoomies, and all! While she gets along with most dogs, she’d do best with a playful, tolerant dog who doesn’t mind an enthusiastic friend.

Ladybug does extremely well in the crate and is mostly house trained. She may have been brought up to use pee pads in her past life so will need some work to teach her not to pee on mats/rugs. She walks well on leash and pulls very enthusiastically when she sees other dogs playing - she just loves to play. She loves humans, including dog savvy kids over 13, and warms up quickly to strangers. We’re not sure how she’d do with cats, so a cat-free home is best.

Ladybug’s ideal home is with an experienced dog owner who understands big feelings in big-hearted dogs. Our default trick when she’s overaroused or overtired is using her crate, pointing at it and giving her a treat inside, and she does fabulous in there. She has shown resource guarding behaviors around food, toys, and prized sticks—so someone who can work with her on it would be perfect.

We truly love this girl. She’s silly, funny, and eager to be part of a family who will give her the structure, exercise, and love she deserves. She’s come so far already!
