Meet Lady

LADY! Lady is a petite female German Shepherd Dog (maybe a mix). She weighs 55 lbs and she is 11 years old. Her favorite thing...hanging with her family or person. Lady is a happy dog, she is well-adjusted, wants to please, and can roll with the punches. She is very easy to love.

Lady would do best in a home with a small yard (no apartment or condo) and people who are home most of the time. Although Lady loves to meet dogs on walks or outings we believe she will be happiest in a home as an only dog. Lady is being fostered in the Portland area.

Please read her description below and if you believe she is a fit complete an online application found on our website www.mywayhomedogrescue.org/adopt

Lady was surrendered after she lost her family in her senior years. She was called Lady Einstein and probably because she is so smart!

Here are some things her foster mom wrote about her!

Lady loves food. Treats to her are a piece of cauliflower or broccoli, carrot coins, apple slices, or a few blueberries. She may be underfoot in the kitchen during dinner prep for this reason, but when we are actually eating dinner she never begs.

Lady does not bark at every little outside noise, or even if she hears voices in the front yard, but clang the mail slot and she's up and rushing to the front door barking. Ditto for anyone knocking. We think her barking, which stops soon enough when she realizes the issue is resolved, is just the right amount for protection alerting. She does do a little talking when she's really bored, usually in the evening, but it's always a few wuffs under her breath followed by an actual bark or two, and it's always for my benefit.

When I leave the house for my run, she just lies down on her mat by the front door without incident. I'm usually gone 45 minutes and it's always quiet when I get back. Her greeting is always calm and happy.

I walk her 45 minutes midmorning and 30 minutes late afternoon. She loves her walks. Lady is an active dog that needs mental stimulation and interaction. She does not do much real snoozing during the day.

When she sits, she lists to one side, as though one hip is sore when she's in that position. I don't make her sit for treats for this reason. She will also limp if she gets long walks or hikes.

She is mildly interested in dogs we see on our walks, but can be a "puller" when it's clear we are actually going to go up close and meet personally.

She is not reactive to big loud vehicles like garbage trucks, even if only a few yards away. She probably would have made a good seeing eye dog.

Lady is crate trained although her current foster family has not found the need for a crate. She loves car rides too! She has done well with older children. No cats, she seems too interested.

Lady is up to date on her vaccines, spayed, had flea treatment, is dewormed and is microchipped. She has had bloodwork and a dental. Her adoption fee is $300 but was paid in advance by a donor who loves her and could not adopt her. Visit www.mywayhomedogrescue.org to fill out an adoption app for Lady.
