Meet Kyro

Poor Kyro was picked up as a stray by animal control. A couple claimed Kyro was their dog that had gotten out. They said they got him from someone off Facebook. The animal control officer scanned him and found that Kyro was microchipped. When the officer contacted the number on the microchip, the lady registered to it claimed that Kyro had been stolen from her yard about a year prior. Animal control told her that because Kyro was microchipped to her, she could come and get him. Sadly, his original owner never came to retrieve him from animal control.

The family who had initially claimed Kyro as their dog ended up coming to get him after his hold time was up. This sounds like a happy ending, right? Unfortunately, it was not for this poor, confused boy. Animal control ended up picking him up 5 more times after that original incident. Each time, animal control returned him with no tickets or penalties.

Sadly, over Memorial Day weekend, Kyro was running at large AGAIN. Animal control had to come out at midnight to capture him and called his owners once more. The owners claimed he kept escaping through a window they "forgot" to close. Animal control said enough was enough; this was costing the city a lot of funds to dispatch an after-hours officer on a holiday weekend. They informed the owners that they needed to pay a $200 impound fee to get him back this time.

What did his family do? They left him there and told animal control to keep him. He wasn't worth $200 to come and get! We understand times are hard right now, and $200 can be a lot of money for someone barely making it, but animals are FAMILY. You sell things, create a fundraiser for help, or reach out to organizations for assistance. You don't give up on your family like that over $200.

If that wasn't enough, poor Kyro tested positive for heartworm disease. Animal control now faces a difficult decision: either euthanize this big, handsome boy or beg for rescue help. Sadly, rescues are beyond full right now, and euthanasia was his only optionuntil ARAR stepped in. We are buried and overwhelmed as well, and our shelter is beyond capacity, but this poor goofball, block-headed, grey and white pitty didn't deserve to die because his owners were irresponsible and didn't think he was worth $200 to bail him out of animal control for the 5th time.

Village, Kyro needs a hero. He needs a foster. He absolutely can not undergo heartworm treatment at the rescue shelter. He is a very sweet and goofy boy.

Can anyone open their hearts and homes to Kyro? He promises to shower you with lots of love and goofy pitty snuggles.
