Meet Kyla
Kyla is a beautiful girl who needs an experienced owner so she can grow and become the best gal!
This little lady has some characteristics of a feral dog and as such, will need a family with patience and dedication to devote to her training and rehabilitation. She’s doing well in her foster home but is still very skittish. Her confidence comes out around other dogs - so she’d love a doggie sibling to learn the ropes from. As a cattle dog mix, she’ll need lots of exercise once she decompresses so ideally her forever family likes to take lots of walks and hikes.
Notes from our Citali Dog Trainer, Jackie - Kyla is sensitive to humans due to her lack of human exposure and possible abuse prior to arriving to the DMV. Kyla is incredibly intelligent (already knows some commands and her name!). She is scared of the leash, but tolerates being leashed once it is on. Kyla’s only known behavioral concern right now is her cautious nature around people and being handled. Kyla is incredibly sweet on her own terms and will offer surprise kisses to her foster's face. She also loves to play frisbee (but still needs to work on bringing it back!).
Kyla's foster is working hard to help Kyla adjust to her new surroundings here in the DMV! Kyla's foster notes that she has definitely gotten better being approached, and is beginning to allow her foster family members to pet her. She is still not a fan of the leash and tends to bolt off, so Kyla's adopter will need to be patient working through this training!
Kyla is a beautiful girl looking for a patient family in a quieter environment who’s ready to dedicate their time and energy to teaching Kyla how to trust again! If that’s you - apply to meet Kyla today!
