Hi, I'm Kong! I'm currently heartworm positive.
Don't worry- I'm still the same lovable pup, I just need a little extra TLC right now! I'm looking for a foster-to-adopt family who can help me heal in a calm, comfy home while I go through treatment. Heartworm treatment can take up to 3 months, and while it works hard to get me healthy, it can be tough on my body. A quiet space with a loving human would make all the difference.
What is heartworm disease? It's caused by bites from infected mosquitoes when dogs aren't on regular heartworm prevention. It takes about 6 months after exposure for dogs to test positive- so prevention year-round is a must! Can other pets catch it? Not directly! It's not contagious between dogs unless a mosquito bites me and then bites another pup. That's why prevention is key.
