UPDATE 5/17/23: We can’t believe this sweet boy is still with us. Housebroken, crate-trained, sweet, and cute. What more could you want?! Koda continues to show his silly personality. He loves to play with toys and cracks us up when he pounces on them. He also likes to drop them over the edge of the couch and then go get them in his own little game of fetch.

UPDATE 5/3/23: Koda is back to us through no fault of his own. He had an adoption where the other dog in the house was being mean to him and they were concerned for Koda's safety so they returned him.

Say hello to Koda. Koda is a 9 month old sweetheart of a dog who took 17 car rides over two days to get to us from one of our rescue partners in South Carolina.

Koda’s pictures don’t do him justice. At first glance, he appears to have a black coat, but when the light hits him just right, you can see beautiful flecks of brown in there too. He currently weighs around 30lbs and we expect that he will stay on the smaller side and be less than 50lbs full grown.

This sweet guy loves to play with the other dogs in his foster’s house and run around in the fenced in yard. He has discovered that playing with toys and chewing on Nyla bones are super fun and loves to do both of those things. He loves going for walks and does well on a leash. More than anything, he loves to be pet and soak up affection. He is definitely a snuggler - especially when he’s snoozy.

He is learning lots of new things in foster care, like that living in a house is pretty cool and that he shouldn’t put his paws on people or on the counter. He’s very easily redirected from that and is learning quickly. He loves food and is very treat motivated, which should make it easy to teach him all kinds of new things. He’s currently learning to sit and is completely housebroken (he will go to the door if he needs to go out) and crate trained and he comes when you call him…most of the time.

He is very funny and will keep you laughing with his goofiness. He sometimes will stand on his back two legs and walk - especially if you are holding something he wants to see. We think he looks like a meerkat when he does and it cracks us up!

At night he sleeps quietly and soundly on a dog bed in his crate. He is ready for breakfast and playtime in the morning before he goes back in his crate while we’re at work. He is full of butt wiggles and excitement when you come home!

He gets along great with other dogs and is good at picking up on their cues when they’re done playing. Because he puts his paws on people when he’s excited and to say hello, we think he would do best in a home with older kids that he wouldn’t accidentally knock over. We’re not sure what he would think about cats. We would want to set up a meeting to see how it goes.

We are in Rochester, NY, we adopt to people who live in the Rochester area. We do not ship our dogs and require home visits. Must live in area to adopt, will not respond to out of area/country requests. Additionally we require physically fenced yard for dog/pup to play in safely. Exceptions are sometimes made to this requirement but is up to the foster and more often done for the small breed dogs.

All our dogs have been treated with dewormer; heartworm tested (if age appropriate -7 mths or older); treated for fleas/ticks; microchipped; and examined by veterinarian plus given age appropriate vaccinations. We take every effort to ensure the health of the animal and you will receive a copy of all vet work performed at time of adoption. Dogs will be spayed/neutered thru us prior to finalizing any adoption.

We provide information on dogs age and breed based on what we are told by person surrendering dog or vet's best guess. While we try our best we cannot guarantee that this information is 100% accurate and can often be best guess in case of our lovable mutts.

You can learn more about our rescue and process at www.new2urescue.org or find us on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/New2Urescue. You must be 25 yrs of age or older to adopt through us. We are in the Rochester NY area and adopt dogs out to area residents.

We are registered in NY State with the Dept of Agriculture RR #033 and a registered 501c3 Non-Profit.
