Koda Newfoundland Dog Mix Gig Harbor, WA

Koda is a 7 year old Newfoundland mix guy. This big, beautiful guy is looking for someone to grow old with. If you are looking for a lover, he is your dog... He loves to snuggle, and cuddle and spoon, he leans in and makes you feel loved and warm and comfy surrounded by his thick beautiful fur. He will do best in an all adult home or one with older respectful kids. He will get grumpy with kids (has snapped at foster’s son when he petted him on the nose) and he also likes to chase things that run.
Koda is most happy sleeping in the room with you and he will sleep in until you're ready to get up (gotta love that!). He loves to be adored and he will adore you right back. He likes to hang with you all day, being where you are in the house though he doesn't mind laying on the deck if the weather is nice for a nap. And he can be left alone in the house just fine, doesn't destroy or pee, just waits. He is very strong, does pull on the leash pretty hard but we do have a new halter and leash he comes with to help with that. He sits, stays, lays down and shakes-- all very well. He wants to do whatever you ask him to so he gets a treat or pet and he takes treats gently.
Koda’s previous owners said he is also very protective, especially when on his property so a fence (not invisible/electric fence) is a must to protect those very important delivery drivers and unexpected guests. A busy house with a lot of people coming and going is probably not the best fit for this guy. With the right situation, he could make someone very, very, happy. He will do best in a home where his humans don’t need to regularly leave him alone long hours. In the past Koda has lived with cats peacefully. He weighs 90 lbs.

We do our best to match families and dogs so everyone is pleased and the placement is permanent. We reserve the right to refuse an applicant if the home situation is incompatible with the needs of the rescue dog. Rescue is about doing our best for the dog. We do home and reference checks. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and are up to date with current vaccinations, before being placed in their forever homes.

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! We are always looking for good foster homes. Our rescue is foster based and we can always save more dogs if we have foster homes for them to go into. It is not a long term commitment. We have been able to find good forever homes in a short time. We also welcome volunteers who can help transport dogs and help with our outreach and fund raising efforts. Please contact us if you can help.
