Koa Rottweiler Lincoln, NE

MARR covers Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wisconsin. Koa is being fostered in OK currently. However, transportation is available for adoptions within our coverage area.

Koa is well-tempered. His default temperament when meeting strangers is primarily anxious and apprehensive but not necessarily aggressive. He does well enough with neutral strangers, but he does not like to be touched by strangers without treats. Koa will accept treats gently enough from anyone and is highly food-motivated.

Oftentimes on walks, he pays strangers no mind at all but there are times he will show leash aggression but that has been easily corrected. Koa behaves well when leashed around strange people or dogs. On walks, he is undistracted by dogs barking at him behind their own fences. He is alert, but really could care less that other dogs are barking. He looks to his handler for direction and seems to lack social confidence. Koa is much more interested in marking and walking than toys or other people or animals. When in his fenced-in yard, he is protective, growling and barking at anyone he can see but this behavior is easily redirected. Koas previous owner did give us some anxiety medicine for when he was boarded, so he may not do well in a boarding situation.

Koa will sit patiently while you place his food bowl down and wait for your okay before eating. He responded to touch stimuli while eating out of his bowl by wagging his tail. He is very eager to please his people. For the most part, Koa has done well enough around his fosters 10yo and 5yo children, however there are some concerns with the younger child. Koa was surrendered with the concern that he does not do well with blond females - which the 5 year old is - so we think that may play a part here. He barked aggressively at the fosters 5yo who once got about 5 feet away from him while he was eating. Although he previously lived with a toddler for 2 years, he will attempt to pin children down while theyre sitting on the couch and petting him. He growled at the fosters 5yo on two separate occasions while she was petting him when he was lying on the floor. Koa seems to have much more comfortability with the 10yo. as compared to the 5yo. You can tell he is very anxious around smaller children. I would not recommend placing Koa with younger children. Koa has been an only pet in his fosters house. However, he has recently spent time with other dogs in the foster home & yard and he did well overall - slow introductions are always best. He is wonderfully quiet inside the home. He gets excited at feeding times and any time he thinks he might be going for a car ride or walk such as anytime you pick up the leash. He loves to use his paws to communicate, putting his paw on your arm while youre petting him, and likes to jump up when hes excited at feeding times or when he might get to leave the house.

Koa is a very happy boy all of the time. He is extremely eager to please, smacking his lips constantly and wagging his tail. Hes playful and full of energy to walk or play. He ignores toys completely. Koa will require a slow feeder, as he is ravenous at meal times and almost inhales his food. He does beg but is easily redirected. He seems to just want to be with his pack constantly. I think Koa would be most happy with a family or individual who stays home throughout the day, and not left alone for hours at a time. He has not been destructive at all while left at home alone Mon-Fri from 8a-12p and 1p-5p.
