Meet Klondike

Born in December 2018, Klondike is a big 140 lbs. boy. He will need help with adjusting to living inside a home. When he is unsure about something, we pause and give him time to process his feelings. Sometimes he likes to lean into you for pets and reassurance that you are with him.

We consult with the Animal Behavior Wellness Center in VA and they have been amazing at finding the right medicine to bring out Klondike's best. He is now at a point where he is adoptable, available to be fostered, or foster to adopt. CHAAMP will be on call and available to Klondike's special family. We would love for you to volunteer and spend time with Klondike and the volunteers. It helps reduce stress and anxiety during the transition from kennel to home.

Our wish is for Klondike to have a home in a quiet environment with a 6ft. fence. Where he can decompress as he adjusts to the new environment (people, smells, and sounds). The best exercise for Klondike is mental. Chewing, sniffing, and licking are like reading a good book for dogs. Once you get to know him and he feels he has his special human, he does like to go hiking and wade in the creek.

The Shelter Playgroup Alliance has a shy adopter guide. We highly recommend you please read it as it explains how to be our best for dogs like Klondike.

Klondike like all our Malamutes, responds and learns BEST with rewards-based training. Using this method reinforces good behavior and builds confidence. It is fun and rewarding for both the handler and the furry companion.

***If you are interested in ADOPTING or FOSTERING***, please complete an APPLICATION by cutting & pasting the following link:

https://form.jotform.com/60794585351161

Or visit CHAAMP.org to access the Adoption/Foster link and learn about the process. https://www.chaamp.org/adoption-process

Your application tells us about your lifestyle and helps us find a potential match for you and your family. We are happy to work with you. For example, if you don't have a fence, we can help find alternatives and/or a dog that will do well without a fence.

A home visit is required prior to adoption/fostering. You can visit the malamute(s) once you've completed the process. Alternatively, you may volunteer and learn how rewards-based training brings out the best in malamutes.

CHAAMP accepts applications from Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington DC.

ADOPTION FEES
~Senior dogs (8+ years old): $100.00
~Adult dogs (2 years up to 8): $300.00
~Puppies (6 months - 2 years): $350.00
~Puppies under 6 months: $375

All Malamutes are microchipped, spayed/neutered, and up-to-date on vaccines. Puppy fees are higher due to more vet visits and vaccines. The adoption fee helps us cover these costs.
