Meet King

KING (k??) – noun. 1) A person or animal considered as the best or most important of its kind. 2) A gentle, loyal, and well-trained dog who is ready to find his home.

King is a BIG dog (about 80 pounds) whose size is equally matched by his BIG heart. After spending the first few years of his life in a loving home, King’s owner ran into hard times and was forced to move into a small apartment where King was no longer welcome.

A few things really stand out about King. He is a confident and independent dog who is very comfortable with himself, which makes him well-balanced and non-reactive in almost any situation. But King also loves to be around his people and often mistakes himself for a lapdog. It takes a few days to earn King’s trust, but after he gets to know you, he becomes a devoted and loving friend. King is also great with other dogs and knows how to be gentle when playing with the other dogs. He drops a toy on command and knows how to share. King is equally calm and gentle with children.

King is a medium-energy dog and is seven years old. He enjoys a jog, but can also entertain himself by rolling around on the floor with his favorite toy. He is smart, obedient, and knows basic commands, including loose leash walking, but given his strength he will need someone who is willing to keep working with him to walk properly. King is crate trained, but he is so well behaved that he has earned the privileged of staying free in his foster home during work hours. He regularly stays free 10-12 hours without having any accidents or getting into any mischief.

King needs a home with structure and routine. While King is good with kids we are looking for a home with no kids for him so he can be in an environment that best fits his needs of being in environment with structure. He also would do best with a short daily walk or someone that likes to run, those are not requirements but would be preferred.

***Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers and we require a home check for each of our adoptable pets prior to them going to their new homes, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family further than 60 miles from Charlotte will be responsible for finding a representative of a rescue local to them that is willing to perform the home check. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to meet/pick up the pet as soon as the application is approved.***
