Meet Kenzo

Meet Kenzo!
Born March 2021, Kenzo is a 7 month male Pudelpointer/Lab mix puppy who joined our rescue family through no fault of his own due to his family not being aware of the amount of work a growing busy puppy would require.

His adoption terms will be on a non-breeding/neuter contract due to his young age. It is ideal for their health and development to wait until a minimum of 1yr before neuter for a large breed dog. Neuter will be paid for by the rescue of course, at our vet clinic located in Arthur ON. Adoptive family must bring him back to our clinic for the neuter to be paid for by us.

Kenzo is very fortunate to be fostered by experienced, positive method dog trainers whom we are so grateful for.
He joined our rescue through no fault of his own, without any training or structure or guidance in his former home, and is thriving with the time and TLC he is receiving in his foster home.

Kenzo's bio:

Active - typical sporting dog

Kenzo spends most of his day playing with his foster's dogs. After breakfast the dogs go out into the yard to run around and roughhouse. Generally this lasts half an hour to 45-minutes.
After which they generally settle and relax. Kenzo receives training throughout the entire day as he's learning manners and how to transition from high excitement to relaxed.
Leashed walks are mostly for the purposes of training. In the afternoon we spend another couple hours playing and training with the dogs before their evening meal. After dinner we have some down time before another round of play before bed.

IS YOUR FOSTER DOG FOOD MOTIVATED? Yes, as part lab Kenzo is very eager to do pretty much anything when food is involved!

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes! Kenzo is currently in foster with several dogs and has been friendly and playful. He can be a bit too much sometimes for dogs (high energy puppy) and will bark to get their attention but he is respectful of dog signs and takes correction from other dogs well. He's also doing well with moderating his energy level to the dog he's playing with.

Kenzo is friendly and interested in other dogs and people on walks. He's been curious and interested in dogs outside the yard. He doesn't alert bark at them.

Kenzo is happy and eager to see people and has shown no fear meeting strangers & has met a number of people. He shows no issue with men, women, or kids. He's a happy well balanced puppy.
He's been friendly and eager to great visitors to the house.

GOOD WITH CATS? Yes, he currently lives with a dog-savvy cat. He shows interest and has been quite respectful of her.

GUARDING ISSUES? None
HOUSETRAINED? Yes
CRATE TRAINED? Yes
Kenzo may bark for 5-10 mins when first put in crate but settles quickly. He sleeps in a crate overnight

Kenzo is learning loose leash walking and does quite well especially if you have treats.
OKAY WITH MANIPULATIONS? Yes
Kenzo has learning to stand on grooming tables and has been good when getting his nails cut and touched. He gets his whiskers cleaned daily as well.

Kenzo is an energetic, happy-go-lucky boy, who would benefit from an active household. He would be better suited to a multi-dog home. Kenzo shows aptitude for sport training such as scent detection and field/ hunting.

THINGS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT? Kenzo is a demand barker - meaning he barks for attention. This is a learned behavior from prior to joining our rescue, that is diminishing with his foster but will need more work.
He is a rambunctious 7 month old who is behind in his training but eager to learn and is very biddable.

Having another suitably matched dog in his new home would be very helpful in helping Kenzo transition and continue to learn structure, routines and blossom with his training.

QUIRKS/CHALLENGES/AREAS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT: Kenzo is a demand barker - meaning he barks for attention. This is a learned behavior that is diminishing with his foster but will need more work. He is a rambunctious 7 month old who is behind in his training but eager to learn and is very biddable.

Kenzo has learned how to sit before doorsways / boundaries, before meals, working on energy up and energy down transitions. He has been learning a lot from the foster's dogs who have been teaching him barking doesn't get him the attention he wants and how to moderate his play level to suit the dog.

PLEASE DESCRIBE THE IDEAL ADOPTIVE HOME FOR YOUR FOSTER DOG BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED. A multi-dog household with an owner who is willing to put the time and consistency into ongoing training for Kenzo. He would do well as a sport prospect but would be equally happy in an active outdoorsy home.

Kenzo is not suitable for apartments/attached housing due to his high energy and barking which is still a work in progress
He is not suitable for families who are away from the home for full days, nor older seniors, due to his young age.

Please read the entire profile before applying. An adoption application must be submitted to be considered. If the dog's listing is still showing, they are still accepting applications.

Only applicants who meet each dog's criteria for their ideal forever home will be contacted. You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile.

Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
