Meet KENZIE

Also in need of a foster home ~
NMDOG KENZIE is available for adoption to a very special human!

KENZIE is a Belgian Malinois / Border Collie cross, per her DNA test results. She is NOT going to be a typical family pet & will not be placed as one. In KENZIES best interest & in our best efforts to set KENZIE & her people up for success...we are ONLY seeking those w breed/handling & training experience with working dogs. We employ & condone only positive, fear/force free training methods. We also expect KENZIE to live inside of the home with her human, as a treasured companion. Working can either be done professionally or as a hobby...as long as KENZIE is treated with respect, has structure & a "job" meeting all of her needs, she will be an absolute treasure of a dog! If you are not interested in SAR work, extreme agility/flyball or luring, LE/Cadaver work, etc...you are not the right human for KENZIE. If you have small children &/or other animals in your home or in your immediate circle.....you are not the right human for KENZIE. If you are still reading....please, allow us to tell you more!

KENZIE was first discovered as a 3 mo old pup "living" at the end of her chain on a NM Indian Reservation. She was suffering terribly with a severe case of demodectic mange & starvation. Because of "sovereign protections" there was nothing that could legally be done to remove her from the situation. Over time (6 mos to be exact) & with the dedication of a handful of motivated people....KENZIE was finally legally signed over to NMDOG. Her condition was now much, much worse & mentally....the neglect & cruelty had began taking its toll. This was the only "life" KENZIE had ever known. Initially, KENZIE was extremely painful to the touch, her skin was completely infected, covered in oozy rotten scabs & open sores. Even the bottom of her feet were raw with mange. KENZIE weighed only 32# at 9mos old when she first entered the NMDOG program & never in her life, had she experienced a comforting touch, a kind word, a soft clean bed or a warm meal. Over the first few months, KENZIE learned that human touch was good & it provided comfort, not pain. She learned not to bite the hand that feeds her & over time...she stopped guarding her meals & possessions. Now KENZIE happily obliges in a game of "drop it - leave it". KENZIE has incredible drive & is constantly working on impulse control - but being in a kennel situation as KENZIE currently is, with limited volunteer time, puts limits on KENZIES progress. She needs her very own super dedicated & FUN human in order to truly thrive!! KENZIE is wicked smart as you can imagine - (see Malinios/Border Collie X), smarter than most humans we know :) Shes going to require someone that can always stay a step ahead of KENZIE & quide her in the right direction. We believe KENZIE deserves to fulfill her absolute potential in life & we are looking for the special human to help her do just that! If you are interested in KENZIE, please reach out to us right away!!

As an all volunteer, foster based, 501(c)3 non profit rescue, NMDOG is always in need of new, approved foster & adoptive homes in order to continue our Mission: to serve & protect New Mexico's Forgotten Dogs!!

If you see a dog you are interested in that says "in need of a foster home", we are currently seeking a temporary foster home for that dog in order to provide them with the cozy & loving experience of a home environment while we work hard to find their forever family. This also frees up space & funds, which enables us to save another life. There is never a cost to foster for NMDOG & you will have the dedicated support of the NMDOG TEAM every step of the way. We take the time to really get to know the needs & personalities of our kids & we go the extra mile to ensure we make the best possible match...setting our dogs & their humans up for success! To learn more about the NMDOG foster program & to submit the foster application, please visit this link on our website - www.nmdog.org/foster

Our adoption fee is $250 which includes; a 7 week NMDOG obedience/bonding class with their new family (classes are located in Abq & are also offered to our foster guardians), a complimentary vet wellness check & our dogs come with all of the supplies they need to get started on a trial adoption in their new home. All adopted dogs also receive free or discounted goodies & services from many of our awesome community partners!! Grooming, food, training, boarding, pet sitting & more. NMDOG doesn't cut any corners when it comes to the care & placement of our dogs. When a dog enters the NMDOG program, they are guaranteed to receive the very best of care. All of our available dogs have received a full medical & behavioral clearance prior to placement. They are (at the very minimum) spayed or neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped, dewormed, Heartworm tested & currently on HW/flea & tick preventative. Due to the nature of our work, many of the dogs we rescue need much more extensive care before they are cleared for adoption. At NMDOG, we stand by our dogs for life & we make a promise to always be there for them (& their people) should they ever need us. .

Please contact us directly via the links provided above or email info@nmdog.org with your interest in becoming a treasured NMDOG Foster Guardian or FoReVeR Guardian Angel to one of our amazing dogs in need!
We look forward to hearing from you & answering any questions you may have. WooF!!
