Kenny Chihuahua Mix Oakland, CA

I’m Kenny, a very sweet, playful and silly 12-lb Terrier mix looking for a family to call my own. I love being held by and snuggling with my person. In my foster home, I live with a jumbo dog who doesn’t mind if I cuddle with him or try to steal snacks or his ball. I love snacks, and that makes me very trainable.

I came into Hopalong’s program and was very shy and scared of the world, and I didn’t feel well, but I got comfortable in my foster home and with my foster family pretty quickly, I’m feeling great, and I have started playing with balls and running around the yard like my foster brother does. I love to go on leash walks in the neighborhood, and I’m curious when I see other dogs and people, but that only means I get distracted, I don’t bark and don’t lunge. I’m still nervous around strangers, it just takes me some time to get to know someone new. And loud or abrupt noises (think: pulling the window shades up really fast) can startle me.

Initially while in my foster home, I did not like being left at home alone and I cried and barked intermittently (but I didn’t destroy anything). Now that I know my foster mom comes back eventually after she leaves, I’m happy napping while she is gone and am so happy to see her when she returns! I am house-trained and sleep through the night on my dog bed. Or on my foster brother’s dog bed, if I get there first. I love to sleep-in. The first thing I want to do when I wake-up in the morning is come say good morning to you!

I have already blossomed so much in foster, but still, I’m going to need someone who is patient getting me out in the world. Did I mention I love snacks?

(Kenny has been living in foster with another dog, and shows he could be good in a house with another dog. He has not been around cats, but is VERY interested in chasing squirrels. He could do well in a home with respectful children.)
