Meet Kalifah DeVinyl

Kalifah is a sweet little female Scottie, about 20 pounds, and estimated to be 6 to 7 years old. She was recently rescued from a puppy mill situation, and because of that, she approaches new situations with a bit of hesitation. But she has made great strides in the few weeks she's been in foster care! Kalifah has had no inside accidents, she's learned to navigate up and down steps to the backyard, loves roaming around the yard and watching the world go by. She also likes to watch TV (really!) and is happy to hang out with her canine foster siblings, although she doesn't really engage with them. She still retreats to her crate as her safe space and for naps (and currently is crated overnight and when her humans are out of the house). But she has the run of the house when everyone is home and tends to follow her foster mom around. Next up is getting Kalifah comfortable on leash.

Kalifah's three joys in life are soft toys, rolling around in the grass (yes, sometimes in stinky stuff!), and mealtime. She will literally dance while you're prepping her food. Due to extreme dental disease, Kalifah had to have all her remaining teeth removed—she had already lost about half of them prior to rescue. She’s recovered well from the surgery and is currently enjoying soft food, although she will be able to eat kibble soon. She may have some hearing loss due to untreated ear infections, but it doesn't slow her down in any way. Her ears are still being treated to clear up any remaining gunk. She's not much of a barker, although she will occasionally let you know that she doesn't appreciate being left out if you walk into a different room. She seems to be ok when you leave the house.

Kalifah appears eager for, but a little uncertain of, human affection. She'll wag at you but might back away if you reach out. On the other hand, if you don't push it, she just may come up to you for some under-the-chin or behind-the-ear scratches. She would probably do well as an only dog or in a home where the resident dogs aren’t too pushy and allow her some space. For the same reason, she might be better with older kids or no kids and a family with past mill experience.

Kalifah is up to date on shots and preventatives and is microchipped. Her adoption fee is $250 plus any additional donation you feel appropriate. Our adoption fee is set to a level to make adoptions happen. They do not cover our costs. Thank you for your generosity and interest in our dogs!

All dogs adopted locally through SGDR receive a free six-week session of obedience classes and a lifetime of behavior support through our Project REWARD program with trainer Charlotte Blake.

You must have an approved application before being able to visit a dog. Visit our website below for an adoption application https://www.snootygiggles.com/dog-application/

If you expect to leave the dog alone for long periods of time, please do not consider adopting a puppy. Puppies need lots of attention and companionship. Thanks.

All known information about the animal is listed above. We do our best to give accurate information, but most of our dogs are rescues and do not come with a known history.
