We were on our way to pick up a dog at the pound that unfortunately passed away before we arrived when we got an urgent call about June. June was found tied up at Animal Control with a mangled face that looked like it was melting off and a crushed left leg. Her face was hanging off and ripped away from her jaw and gums. Much of her facial tissue and muscle was dying. Luckily, our foster Sadie stepped up and we raced over to Dekalb to pick up June. The incredible staff at New Hope Animal Hospital stayed late and Doctor Leathers was able to give this girl her face back. She will need multiple surgeries to repair the damaged to her face and mouth, but her future is bright. There's no way to know exactly what happened to Junes face, but our vet thinks her injuries are consistent with being attacked by another dog.
June is settling into foster care so she can heal and learn what its like to be a loved pooch. She is learning the joys of living with caring humans. Despite what she has been through, June is incredibly sweet and adoring. She especially loves sunbathing and a being the little-spoon. She is smart, determined, and curious and has figured out the food-puzzle toys like a champ. June can be a little unsure of tall men at first, but she is a total lover of anyone she trusts. She made fast friends with her doggie foster-sister, Ada, and likes to cuddle with their bodies touching. With proper introductions, she may enjoy a canine companion that allows her to be the leader. June seems to prefer a harness over a collar and her foster-mom is working on her leash manners. So far, June has been known to enjoy bones, sunbathing, napping on car rides, and attention. Junes tongue hangs out the side of her mouth and she loves to use it to give kisses. She has not met any cats or children as of yet.
June will likely have 1 or 2 more surgeries on her face to fix the construction and pull some exposed teeth. When her face has healed and we have addressed her broken leg, June will be available for adoption. Her broken leg will likely have to be fused or amputated.
