JOYCE Boxer & American Bulldog Mix Austin, TX

This gentle, sweet dog needs a forever home! Joyce is about 2 years old, and came to the shelter as a stray. She was wandering the streets for at least two weeks, underweight and with horrible hair loss. After 4 months in the shelter, her hair grew back (so soft!) but she didnt gain much weight. It was clear the shelter is quite stressful for her but thankfully a foster stepped up to bring her home! Her foster raves about her! This is what they've shared about getting to know Joyce the past few weeks: Joyce (A860282) is probably the most loving dog I have been around, it was love at first sight. It seems clear that she wasnt used to being an inside dog, everything seemed new to her. She was scared of sudden movements, noises, and people. But she quickly warmed up to us and became the biggest love bug. She stays around me almost all the time (I work from home) and just chills. Outside she likes playing fetch and playing with the water hose. When it is time for her to go to bed she likes to put her heavy head on my lap and receive scratches until she falls asleep. She is fully house trained, is great on car rides, is doing very well on crate training, has learned to wait to get invited into the house, and is learning sit. She needs more work on leash walking because she gets a bit too excited with squirrels and birds. The shelter offers a training voucher so you can have the help of professionals to guide you. Joyce hasnt shown any reaction to dogs besides wanting to play with them. Austin Animal Center offers meet and greet sessions to make sure that she's a good match for your dog. I firmly believe that with proper introduction she would be fine with your Fido! Or she could be your only one ;-) She wasnt introduced to cats yet, so I dont know how she would react. Her perfect home would have people committed to showing her that not all people are bad and that she can trust people. For the time being a house without children will be better because children can be unpredictable and Joyce needs an environment without big surprises so she can relax.
