Meet Joy

Meet Joy! She is a petite GSD (maybe mix) and is around 6-7 years old. She was originally surrendered to a local TX shelter and was adopted but sadly returned to her foster mom due to unexpected events in the adopter's personal life. Thankfully, Joy is back in foster care with and has been doing great. Here are some notes from her foster mom:

"Joy is an absolute sweetheart but she does have anxiety, but thankfully her anxiety doesn’t show in destruction of anything or aggression it shows in fear and pacing. She is shy at first but once she trusts you she is attached, she is attached to my hip and just follows me around everywhere, she is crate trained and she crates herself.

She does still have accidents in the house due to her anxiety but when she is calm she will let you know when she has to go. She has absolutely no prey drive with my cats or rabbits, and prefers to ignore them and she gets along great with both small and big dogs big dogs are all female and one small is a male. She needs a calm family who would love to take her on outdoor adventures, no children, teenagers who know how to handle dogs would be okay.

She gets scared by loud noises no matter what. She has amazing recall if she knows you, because she wants to be near you. And anybody who adopts her has to let her sleep in their bed, I know it’s a weird requirement but it’s the only place other then her kennel she has calmed down and slept peacefully the entire night, she likes being by her people."

Joy would make an excellent companion for someone that is home during the day and wants a dog who will be right by their side. She would also do best in a home with someone that has experience dealing with dogs that are anxiety prone. A vet recommended medication would be beneficial for her but for more information, please reach out.

Please be aware, Joys foster mom will be reviewing all applications so please try to include as much detail and effort as possible as to why Joy is the dog for you.

Joy is vaccinated, dewormed, chipped, spayed/neutered, and hw neg.

** All dogs are located in TX and will only be transported once adopted. Transportation is included in the adoption fee.

PIYHR makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. The breeds listed are a guess based on features and characteristics. We cannot guarantee the size or breed of any dog without a DNA test.**
