Meet JOSIE!
MEET JOSIE!
This super cutie is a ~10 year old, 10 lb Yorkshire Terrier mix with a big personality. Josie found her way to City of Elderly Love after being brought to Philly's animal control shelter as a stray in not so great shape. She luckily landed a patient, caring foster home to help her recover from her time as a stray and decompress from her time in the shelter.
Josie loves to play and can't resist a squeaky toy! For the most part, she is docile and doesn't need a lot of exercise although she does enjoy walks. Probably her favorite thing is to sit in your lap! She does take a hint though when your lap needs a break - she'll lie down on her own somewhere nearby. Josie is currently in foster care with two other dogs and a cat and does well with them, though may chase the cats every now and then when she's feeling spunky. Josie has limited sight, she is not completely blind and makes her way around the house, small steps, and yard with no problem. Because of her limited sight, it is best to make sure she sees you before you pick her up. If she is startled by your presence, there is a chance she will nip at you. We recommend that she not live with small children since she does startle easily.
Josie has been fully vetted since coming to the shelter. She was treated for ear infections, spayed, and had a couple benign mammary tumors removed. She also had a dental cleaning and her teeth are in great shape. She doesn't have any ongoing health concerns. She is house trained, but may use a pee-pad after maybe 7 hours without a potty break if you work long days. Josie is currently working with a trainer to gain confidence when meeting new people so she doesn't feel the need to nip when frightened. Her ideal future family will help her continue to build confidence. Consider adopting this special girl!
Josie is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
