Jojo was surrendered by a commercial breeder due to heart issues which have now been corrected very successfully with surgery and he has a fabulous future ahead of him.

MUST have suitable canine companion in new home, someone home often, and his adoption contract requires mandatory registration with an approved trainer to set Jojo and his new family up for success in his new home

Jojo can be vocal as is typical of his breed mixes, and would not be suitable for apartment/attached condo homes.

NOTES from Jojo's foster family

ENERGY LEVEL:
Average energy of a small maltese/poodle.

IS YOUR FOSTER DOG FOOD MOTIVATED?
Yes, very motivated for treats! Especially dried
sardines, dried beef liver treats and dehydrated lamb
lung.

GOOD WITH DOGS?
JoJo loves dogs he is familiar with and likes to play
and be around them. Once he has a particular friend
over he will follow them around and want to hang out,
play or cuddle.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO
DOGS MET ON WALKS? Once healthy and recovered from his surgery, Jojo
started to bark at new dogs. We worked on building his
confidence in seeing new dogs and people. He may
make a little bark but then look up at us for
reassurance. He will engage with only familiar dogs
when out for a leash walk.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO
DOGS SEEN FROM THE YARD OR INSIDE THE
HOME?
JoJo will peek through the front fence and sometimes
bark at people when they walk past.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO
PEOPLE MET ON WALKS? JoJo used to bark when seeing new people while out
on leash walks. This is less of an issue and generally
he ignores other people and is happy to connect with
us or just sniff around and walk.

GOOD WITH STRANGERS? PLEASE PROVIDE
PEOPLE INTERACTION DETAILS. Bark at first but after a few minutes he will calm down and will take a treat. Or two. Or five.

HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO
PEOPLE SEEN FROM THE YARD OR INSIDE
THE HOME SUCH AS VISITORS?
First JoJo will bark when visitors come to the house,
but before too long he is snuggling with them on the
sofa

GOOD WITH CATS?
JoJo has met cats and is curious, but not much engagement.

GUARDING ISSUES?
JoJo will willingly share food bowls (we feed him in his
crate as we want to make sure he gets all his food!)
and will sit and wait for his turn when it’s treat time.
However, he will try to collect all the chewies when it is
chewie time.

If I am holding or cuddling his foster brothers, JoJo will
beg to also be picked up. Not guarding at all, but he
does need a lot of love and attention.
If it is chewie time, Jojo will grumble if any other pup
tries to take his chewie.

HOUSETRAINED?
Yes

CRATE TRAINED?
Yes

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER
BEHAVIOR IN THE CRATE. Jojo has a daytime crate for feeding time or quiet time. This way he can take the time he needs to eat, so he is
happy in his crate and waits quietly to have the door
opened after he is done. At night he has another more
cosy bed/crate. He goes in, spends a little time making
his bed/nest with his blankie and sleeps through until
morning. In the morning he will whimper when he is
awake and needs to go out to pee.

I LEAVE MY FOSTER DOG ALONE FOR ___H
PER DAY. 3

IS YOUR FOSTER DOG DESTRUCTIVE?
No
DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG SHOW SIGNS OF
SEPARATION ANXIETY? Yes.

PLEASE ELABORATE.
Jojo is sad when his foster brothers are gone for longer
walks that are too long or too wet/cold for him to enjoy.
If a human is home with him, he will howl/grumble/talk
for about 1 - 2 minutes when they first leave and then
settle down and enjoy a chewie, toy or treat. If he is left
on his own he will howl and wait watching the door until
someone comes home. Jojo is fine left for 6 hours if he
has another pup in the home, but he would not thrive if
left completely alone.

PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER
DOG LEASH SKILLS. Jojo loves his little walks around the block if it is not too cold or raining. He keeps a nice soft leash and walks beside us. He does best when not walking as a big pack as he gets too excited! Walks alone or with one
other quiet pup are best. He is just a little guy, so if he gets tired he may look up and ask to be picked up

OKAY WITH MANIPULATIONS?
Yes
JoJo is the easiest pup to groom, brush, clip, clean
ears. We sit on the sofa and he is completely relaxed.
I have never met a dog who enjoyed grooming as
much as Jojo! He is less happy during a bath because
he does not like to get wet, but the rest of the
manipulations are easy peasy.

PERSONALITY?
Sweet, loving, affectionate, trusting. He really loves
attention from you and loves to give a lot of kisses in
return! He really likes to hang out with both his 4
legged and two legged family.

THINGS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT?
Not barking when people come to the door.

Jojo is anxious when left alone. He prefers to be with at
least another pup or human most of the time.
If there are other pups in the home, he will need a quiet
place where he can take his time to eat with no
pressure that someone will steal his food.

FAVOURITE TREATS/CHEWIES THAT ARE
WELL TOLERATED:
Crumps Naturals small trainers
Dried cod/sardine
Nature's Own bullystick chews
Nature's Own dried lamb lung

TREATS TO AVOID AND WHY:
When the chews are chewed down, remove so he
does not choke. Or use a chewy holder

Adoption Fee $750

Notes:
*Children must be over 10yrs, respectful and dog savvy with previous experience with dogs in the home.
* As a young dog with a life expectancy of 15-20yrs, he is not a suitable match for older seniors

MEDICAL HISTORY
Jojo has successfully completed his heart surgery and recovered so amazingly!
He has also completed his 6 month post op reassessment with his cardiology specialist who shared fabulous news!!!!

From Jojo's cardiologist
"Jojo's repeat echocardiogram shows marked improvement of his pulmonic stenosis. The pressure gradient across the pulmonic valve is within normal ranges and the thickening of the subvalvular region causing a dynamic obstruction has resolved.

We are very pleased with the remodeling that has occurred, although he still has dilation of his right atrium and ventricle, which should not be clinically relevant.
Given these improvements, and excellent prognosis for future quality of life, Jojo no longer requires his atenolol medication

Jojo has now been neutered and is ready to find his forever family!

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require in person meetings in St Jacobs ON

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
, or on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites.

Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, including vet references as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs.
All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. Our dogs are in private foster family homes, not in a shelter.
Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
