(John) Coffey Mixed Breed Matthews, IN

(John) Coffey is a large bulky misunderstood innocent dog that was surrounded by prejudgmental people with small minds ready to assume he was guilty just by the looks of him....now if you think I’m describing the character from the green mile you’re not wrong, and that is how Coffey got his name.
The movie character and the dog basically one in the same.
Gentle giants you might say.
Coffey is a very well mannered two year old mixed breed dog looking for an active home that understands large, energetic, smart dogs.
Experience in bully mix breeds is a must!
Other active playful big dogs would be ideal as he loves to wrestle and rough house with his foster dog siblings.
A home with cats can work just fine as long as they are confident type cats that don’t spook easily and stand up for themselves when they have had enough. So no scared cats! Those make the chase game way too easy and fun and although he wouldn’t know what to do once he caught them, it could be too stressful on an insecure cat being chased. Dog savvy cats, especially those with claws, he does perfectly well with!
He can get along with pretty much al dogs. He has not encountered, since in our care, any very highly reactive dogs however so I do not know how he would take another dog being outright mean to him.
Coffey has been a great house guest since with us. He’s perfectly crate trained and doesn’t mind being crated when no one is home. He even has a dog bed in there he hasn’t torn up (that’s impressive around here!)
He has not had any accidents inside either, although there is a dog door.
He might need a slight touch up on some very basic manner but no horribly bad behaviors to list.
He is basically a big huge puppy!
He has super good recall so far.
Even the slightest raise of a voice and he’s stopping what he’s doing to make sure he’s not upsetting you. He loves food/treats so a brush up on some training or even learning some new tricks will be a breeze!
Coffey is an all around very typical young bully mix. He has a ton of energy and needs a strong confident leader to ensure he is cared for properly and kept safe.
Children under 5 are a no, not due to aggression, more that he may accidentally squish them with his love. He doesn’t know he size all the time and he adores his humans! Even kids 5-12 we will only allow very dog savvy kids due to the fact that Coffey night accidentally knock a kid over and we want to make sure he is understood and that is is known he is PLAYFUL and not intentionally doing harm.
Coffey will also only go to a home with a 6’ fence minimum. This is for his protection and we will not waiver.
Coffey escaped the death penalty by a hair unlike the movie character.
I won’t see him go to a home that is anything less than perfect for him!
