Meet Joel
Joel originally came to us in early 2023 after being found with a dog we suspect to be his mom ( Ellie, since adopted) as an approximately 8-month-old puppy. He was then adopted from us in summer 2023, with what we thought we would be the perfect setup for him. It was a large farm with plenty of space to run off his energy, and meet plenty of guests of his adopter to help build his socialization and confidence.
However, it seems that Joel took on more of the “farm dog” role instead of a social greeter, and in turn has had minimal socialization between his last adoption and now. He’s terrified of being in a house, he’s scared of sudden movements, and crawls instead of walks through the house.
All in all, our hearts are broken for him. Sometimes, even the most thorough background checks and home visits don’t prepare you for who someone truly is. And now, Joel is suffering from it.
However, Joel has made some major steps recently, as he made his way into a foster home last week, and is already showing major improvement in his confidence! He not only attended our first training session on Friday, but even strutted his stuff at our flash tattoo fundraiser on Saturday! He is settling in well with his foster “pack”, and has even warmed up to the feline friends that live there! We believe he would do well with indoor kitties in his forever home, too! He just has the outdoor ‘farm dog’ prey drive that makes small, outdoor animals in his forever home less than ideal.
If you’d like to be part of Joel’s journey and ultimately his forever home, you can apply to adopt through the link in our bio! His adoption fee is $200, and we promise that once he goes through a decompression period, he’ll be the most loyal, loving companion you could ever ask for. Joel does need a home with no small dogs, but we believe the key to him opening up would be another medium-to-large, confident canine companion!
