Meet Jessie

Jessie, our 1 year old black lab, just finished a stack of self-help books. She had plenty of time to read them, as we took Jessie in from a local shelter weeks ago after she was found stray with a broken leg. While she's been healing with us, she's read about how to succeed in business (yawn, didn't stick), how to keep your house clean (double yawn) and more. But the one that stood out? "How to Win Friends and Influence People"! All our Jessie wants is more friends and more parties.

Jessie had a broken tibia after being hit by a car. No one came forward for her, so we took her in to get her the surgery she needed. Now rebuilt (she's a little cocky about the cool metal in her leg, honestly), Jessie is healed and ready for her forever home. She will have no long lasting effects from her broken leg and can run around like any lab pup. So, run around she does!

As sweet as they come, Jessie loves all people. She is also an enthusiastic fan of other animals. Jessie is still very much a puppy and because she spent so many weeks in crate rest healing, she is very exuberant about meeting new friends and dogs. This means that Jessie likely is not suited for small children (she may accidentally knock them over) and should only live with dog-savvy cats. Her new dog companions need to be patient as she continues to learn to be polite.

And speaking of learning, Jessie is very smart and treat motivated. Her foster family has worked really hard on her manners, and Jessie is doing great. She is potty trained and comfortable in a crate (although a bit sick of being in one). Like all young dogs, Jessie needs to go to someone willing to continue to work on her training. Jessie is active; we think she just wants to take that bionic leg out for a spin. So Jessie's adopter should want to be active too!

Jessie is heartworm negative, spayed, microchipped, and current on her flea and heartworm preventatives.

You likely made it to this point because you love black labs as much as we do. So apply to adopt? After all, as the title of our favorite self help book tells us, this is the "Year of Yes"! www.stumptownstrays.org
