Jessie is a about a year and a half old and looks and acts like a hound, though his sibling looked more like a heeler. He has to sniff everything! He can be unsure in new situations and will plant himself flat on the ground--not aggressive though, so he will need a supportive family who will help build his confidence. Once he becomes more familiar with a situation, he loves people and other dogs. He loves to run and has a lot of energy. Who says that hound/heeler mixes can't retrieve? Jessie loves to "fetch" the tennis ball in his own special way--he runs and picks up the ball then runs around with it for a while and then brings it near to you and then lays down and rolls on his back and lets you take the ball away from him. He also loves to play with the Kong--especially if it is filled with treats! He will toss it into the air and then grab it. Then he likes to roll around on his back with it. He now knows sit and is doing really well with his leash walking. He is very good in his crate and rarely barks in it. He definitely needs to be crated when left alone as he doesn't understand what should be chewed and what should be left alone and will likely be very destructive in that situation. He would be great at tracking as he loves to sniff everything. He's good with small caged mammals and goats and ducks (separated with fencing). He gets along ok with our dog savvy cats--they ignore him and don't run or spit at him. Not sure how he would do with cats that are afraid of dogs. Don't know how he will do with small children as he doesn't understand personal space and may jump and knock them over. He can be a little mouthy but is getting better. He does like treats ALOT! With a little time and a little patience, Jessie is going to make a wonderful addition to some lucky family!
