Meet Jensen

Jensen is a 50-pound purebred Australian shepherd who just turned 5-years old on May 13th. He is super smart, active, and affectionate and the perfect age - still young enough to have lots of fun but no puppy shenanigans! He has plenty of energy but also has an "off" switch, being versatile enough to enjoy a good porch nap or a rousing game of fetch.

Jensen grew up with two other dogs in the household and loves to play. Interestingly he adapts his play style to adjust to any size dog - Chihuahua to Great Pyrenees. He lives with cats now but might chase a cat who runs.

As a puppy, Jensen had some training, so he knows several tricks like sit, lay down, and shake. And while he wasn’t taught to do it, he loves to give hugs by wrapping his paws around your waist or over your shoulders if you lean down. He’s also bell trained and will ring a set of bells if he has to go potty.

Jensen loves walks and he is a "stick to your right side" walker, having been taught to do so by his owner who had surgical issues. He does have a habit of getting distracted by pretty flowers though but don't we all? He does very well off-leash, he will just follow you around while you mow the grass, garden, or take the trash out.

Jensen is a discerning music lover and will howl and cry along with violins, trumpets, or orchestral music in general. He can be a bit vocal when he perceives there's an intruder outside but with proper introductions to strangers he settles down quickly. Like many other dogs, he's not a fan of having his paws touched so if he goes to a groomer, it must be one who is patient and knowledgeable about how to work with paw-sensitive doggos.

Jensen successfully mingled with children in his previous home, but we would not suggest a family with rowdy little children. He may think they're sheep needing shepherding!

Jensen would do best in a home with herding dog experience because while he has had a solid training foundation, he sometimes takes it upon himself to micromanage his surroundings. It's just a trait in many Aussies - being in control.

Jensen is crate- and house-trained. He uses his crate as his safe space when he just needs to get away from it all. He is up to date on his vaccines and is neutered. He is located in Quincy, WA. We do have terrific, volunteer transport drivers, so we would consider adoption anywhere within the Pacific Northwest.

If you are interested in adopting Jensen, please fill out the application on our website at:
