Meet Jennie

Meet Jennie!!! Jennie is a 4-year-old, 50-pound hound mix. She was rescued from a shelter in West Virginia with very little information known about her.

Jennie had a tough start after her freedom ride in November. She is blind in her left eye (due to past trauma of unknown cause), but this does not appear to be an issue. She had cherry eyes in both eyes and entropion (eyelids fold inwards) which caused her to get ulcers in her good eye. These have both been surgically corrected and the eye doctor expects no more problems down the road except maybe a daily eye drop to prevent dry eyes. She is fully potty trained and uses a doggy door when she needs to go out.

She has learned “sit” and is improving every day on not tugging when on a leash. She loves to take walks and bask in the sun in our yard.

She has the most amazing temperament and has not met a human stranger yet. She is extremely gentle and gets along with our 5-year-old terrier mix and my 8- and 10-year-old children. I am unsure of how she is with cats, but she does notice them when we are out walking.

There is no apparent food aggression, and she takes food/treats gently from my children’s hands. For the most part she is laid back and loves to spend most of her time on the couch.

Jennie does not sleep in a crate. We tried the first night and she would not go in. She sleeps with her humans and does not move much at night.

She used to be very nervous in the car, but this is improving with each car ride. She will allow you to put her paws in the car and then she will jump the rest of the way in. Jennie did test positive for Lyme Disease. It is a tick-born illness that is treatable, but not curable. Lyme does stay mostly dormant, should a flare up occur, antibiotics are needed.

Jennie has stolen her foster family’s hearts and will likely steal yours too.

All HART dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on all vaccines, including bordatella and rabies. They are heartworm tested and on preventative for heartworm, fleas, and ticks. If you are interested in any of our pets, you must complete an online dog adoption application at www.rescueAhart.org . The application will put you in touch with this wonderful dog's foster family so you can schedule a meeting. Thanks! www.rescueAhart.org
