Meet Jem

Isn't Jem just adorable?! Jem came to STAF from a rural county shelter after he was found as a stray. He's 1 year old, just 28 pounds, and although he looks like a small shepherd mix we actually think he may be a Mountain Cur perhaps mixed with a Spitz breed. Jem is super friendly and curious, and seems to like other dogs. Upon his arrival at STAF, he greeted the other dogs as he walked by their runs by touching noses with them.

Here is some great info on Jem from a volunteer: “When I walked into the aisle where Jem's run is, the first thing I saw was a wiggling little dog with the brightest sparkle in his eyes. Jem was so happy for the attention when I entered his run. He was patient/slightly perplexed as I fitted him for a harness, but cooperative and excited to go wherever I was about to take him. Jem is energetic and galloped down the sidewalk on the way to the park. He is good on a leash and does not pull, he will run, walk, or hike. He loved hiking in the woods and was on his best behavior. We did not pass any dogs but all the people we passed loved Jem and he could not wait to introduce himself to everyone. He seems to like children too. Jem has the cutest curly-Q tail and his little ears go back when he is on the move. Jem is affectionate and fun to be around. While at the park, Jem enjoyed himself immensely. We took a little break on the cool, shaded, still dewy grass and Jem enjoyed it to the fullest. Video attached. What a sweet, cute bundle of joy, a real GEM!”

Jem is a lover, and when you pet him he will gaze at you adoringly with his liquid puppy-eyes :). We're excited to help this boy find a wonderful, loving family to call his own!

Jem’s estimated birth date is July 2017
Jem will need: An active home that will help him to burn off his puppy energy as well as a home that will get him involved with positive based basic obedience.
Jem will love: A fenced back yard to play in as well as a home that likes to take long walks.

Please see our homepage for visiting hours and adoption details.

All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.

Visit our website www.staf.org to download our application.

We do not do same-day adoptions; we ask that you return for a follow-up visit before taking an animal home.

You must be 21 years or older to adopt a dog from STAF

We require a physical fence for homes with children under the age of 11. We also may require a physical fence for specific dogs on a case-by-case basis, depending on each dog's behavior and exercise needs.

Invisible fences - Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training--we cannot adopt to homes with invisible fences unless otherwise noted in a dog's online profile.

We do request vet and personal references.

At this time, we are only able to consider applicants within 75 miles of Cincinnati.

Can’t adopt but want to help? You can make a difference! Our shelter is run entirely on volunteer-power and generous donations from animal-lovers like you. 100% of your contribution goes directly to caring for our 500+ furry residents. Thank you for your support.
