Meet Jeju

Jeju (an Asian mix) is not, nor has he ever been, part of our rescue - we are listing him as a courtesy for his current owners who are looking to rehome him.
Please contact Ken at the email/telephone number listed at the end of these notes if you are interested in finding out more about him:

Jeju is a male Asian mix rescued from Jeju Island, South Korea. He and his brother were rescued from a blueberry farm at the age of 3 months by a Californian who was working as an English teacher on the island and also doing stray dog rescues utilizing contacts back in the US in order to get them adopted into the US. We picked him up at LAX airport when he was 7 months old and have had him ever since. Jeju is currently 21 months old. He is a handsome boy. He is medium sized like most jindos, although slightly larger than a typical jindo. Sweet boy but he is very skittish of strangers. Very loyal and loves affection just after he wakes in the morning. His favorite things are running around lighthouse beach in Santa Cruz, long trail walks in the redwoods, being outside in the yard watching birds and squirrels, and listening to gophers digging. He also loves to play with the water from garden hose at plant watering time. He does not jump very well but loads up into the car just fine as long as first step is not too high. He likes to go on car rides and is quiet and calm during car rides. He is not very food motivated although he does like training treats and pupuccinos from Starbucks. He is good with cats and has been living with 2 indoor/outdoor adult cats over the 14 months. He tolerates being picked up to be examined by owners but he does not especially like it and gets a bit squirmy. He does not mind any part of his body to being touched. He was never in any abusive situations in Korea or the US. Overall, he is very smart and a bit on the independent side.

He is neutered and current on all recommended shots.

We feel it best to find him a new home, if possible, as he will not warm up to our 20 year old son who he consistently barks out in a fearful manner while indoors. He tends to do best with women and worst with young men with his skittishness. He has been fine with younger children. He can be a little reactive to other dogs while on leash. He is not reactive to other dogs off leash. Also, he would not travel well with us due to his skittishness towards strangers and his consistent barking at strangers while indoors. He has barked at and nipped a handful of visitors who visited our home, who were strangers to him. I just retired and will be traveling often to be with family and friends. We feel this consistent traveling would be too stressful for both dog and people due to his fear of strangers. We feel he would do best in a quiet, low traffic home without children or teenagers.
