Meet Java The Pup

Ready to share his story, welcome Java The Pup! ?

The thing about life is, no one ever expects what will happen. As for me, I never expected to end up in the shelter. I never expected that I would be heart-worm positive thanks to my former owners for not keeping me on prevention. I never expected that I would spend over 3 weeks in the shelter before someone came for me. I never expected that a rescue would come for me. I never expected that I would end up in such an amazing foster home. I never expected that they would get me through treatment and all healthy again. And lastly, I didn't expect that sharing my story today means I might meet my new family tomorrow!

My name is Java the Pup and I am a 2-year-old male Border Collie mix. I am on the smaller side and only weigh about 50lbs and won't be getting much if any, bigger.

Below you will find what my foster has to say about my handsome self!

"Java the Pup is super cute, around two years old, and a border collie mix. He is the perfect medium dog size, weighing around 50 pounds. He is mostly black, with gray fur on his chest and tummy, and the tips of his toes. He has a white tail tip, too. His fur is very soft and on the medium/long fluffy side. We've really enjoyed petting him and snuggling with him. He is SO cute! He will fall asleep while we're petting him, or will lay down and fall asleep near us once he's tired out! Getting pets/ spending time with his people is his most favorite activity. Since he is a more active breed, he does bark initially when he is left alone, but he calms down, especially after he gets used to the household routine. He LOVES to go for walks and is very treat motivated. He has learned to sit and is working on Shake currently. He went to several dog training classes with his foster, and he is a smart guy! He has been great company while I'm doing chores around the house. He just wants to be with his people. He will enjoy going to obedience classes, scent training classes, and might be pretty fast in an agility class, too."

??To My New Family (Part 1)??

I am very excited to meet you, but before you apply to adopt me I need you to know some important things about me. I have compiled a list below ?

?I am a very active and very lovable guy. I LOVE meeting people! I get SO excited. I am all about getting petted! I would do well at a public outing with my family. I LOVE being with my people, and investigating new smells!! I am an active dog. I do jump up on people to give hugs and try to get more pets. What can I say, I am a lover boy through and through!

? I am a very active dog. I am a go go go kind of a dog and am always up for an adventure! Even if it is just for a walk around the neighborhood. I don't think you will find a more enthusiastic dog when it comes to going places. I will always have a smile on and be wagging my tail!

? I have not shown to be a big chewer. My fosters have given me oinkies, rawhides, and nylabones. I tend to just move the chews around but don't necessarily chew/eat them. I would much rather prefer to get pets. I will chase after a ball, but haven't quite grasped the bringing it back part yet. I have not had any direct contact with big bodies of water but my guess is I would LOVE splashing around in a kiddie pool or going into the lake with my people. Oooh, maybe I could even be a boat dog?! How cool would that be?

? I do great with other dogs, but the most I have done with them is give them a quick sniff. I would much rather do something with my humans or get lovings.

? I have not been around any cats or kids in my foster home so am unsure how I would do with them. I am energetic, though, so they should definitely be older. I would hate to accidentally knock the younger ones over in my excitement.

? I know food aggression and resource guarding are common with rescue dogs. I have not shown signs of having either in my foster home. It is important that this is something my family be aware of and still monitor should they have other dogs in my new home. Always better to be prepared just in case ?

?I do great riding in the car, but I want to drive and will try to climb into your lap. My new family will want to tether me or hook me up with a dog seatbelt extension when we are going for road trips!

?I have gone to a few dog training classes, focusing on leash walking/ not jumping up. I am one of the best leash walkers- I keep my nose right in line with my foster's left knee. Unless I run across a great scent, then I am all about getting in some good sniffing!

?Given my energy level, I would not do well in an apartment setting. I need a big fenced-in yard to romp around in, especially when my owner can't take me for a walk.

?I can be vocal when I am outside, especially if I hear something. I am not a big barker inside unless there is cause for it.

?I am potty and kennel trained.

? When no one is home, I am allowed to roam the laundry room and kitchen and do excellent.

?I am being fostered in Tulsa, OK. We do not send our dogs on transports or ship them. This means my new family needs to pick me up, even if they are out of state.

?My adoption fee is $225. That includes DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordatella shots. I will be micro-chipped, heart-worm tested, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.

??To My New Family (Part 2)??

I am very ready to find my forever family, however, I want to make sure that not only am I a good fit for you but that you are a good fit for me! Below you will find some of the things that I hope for in my new home

My ideal home would be on the more active side. I am a pretty high-energy guy, but will also fall asleep when you're petting me, once I have burned off some of my energy. I am always up for going on a leash walk around the neighborhood or sniffing around off-leash at the neighborhood park. I am FAST boy so would make an amazing running/jogging buddy! I would be a great agility dog or throw the tennis ball dog (I am working on retrieving the tennis ball part, but so far will chase after the ball, and then wait for you to come to pick it up and throw it again, ha!)

If you would be interested in welcoming me to your family, please apply for me at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Thanks for letting me share my story with you ?
Sincerely
Java The Pup
