Meet Jasper

Meet joyful Jasper! This adorable red boy is a mix, but he’s built quite like an English Lab (low set and blocky). He came to SCHS from a less than ideal situation, and it’s a testimony to his good nature that he is rolling with all the changes in his life so well. While he’s a sensitive fellow to some degree,

Jasper is also quite agreeable and seems to be a sunny, glass-half-full kinda guy. He is game for anything - long walk or hike? Great! Toy time? Fantastic! Cuddling? Let's do it! Sniffing and romping about the play yard? Count him in! Meeting other dogs? Game on! We’ve only begun to introduce Jasper to other dogs, but it sure seems like he is ready to engage and play with other dogs - he gave a big fat play bow to one of our tester dogs this week and we all just had to laugh out loud at his enthusiasm!

We’ll post more as we do more dog intros with him, but we got a hunch he’s gonna be kinda playful with other dogs.

Not surprisingly, Jasper seems to have been taught little in his past life, but is learning the basics at the shelter and will benefit from adopters who will continue to work with him in that department, as well as the confidence department. He can be a little tentative sometimes but is getting more comfortable out in the world every day.

We did notice Jasper tends to favor a hind leg occasionally and we are sending his X-rays to specialists to get their opinion. He will need some kind of surgery to help repair this, but boy oh boy this fella is gonna be worth it!
Jasper has all the makings of a really outstanding canine companion and is going to make a most joyful best buddy for some lucky adopter.

Please read entire posting for information on our new procedures. We are currently requiring appointments for all adoptions. Please give us a call if you questions about a pet or complete an application at https://adoptmountainpets.org/pet-services/adoption-process/application-form to make arrangements to visit the Animal Resource Center.

Adopters will be considered on the totality of the application and how it matches the particular pet's needs.

Most dogs who come from the shelter will not be house trained.

We do not know or make guarantees that a dog or cat will do well with all children, other animals or is house-trained.

We will need to talk to all of the adults in the home prior to making an appointment to visit with a pet.

In most cases its necessary to to have family dogs come into meet your potential adoptee. Please be sure your dogs are spayed or neutered and current on vaccines (distemper - parvo and rabies) before bringing them for a meeting.

All dogs must be transported home in a travel crate to transport your new pup home safely.

Renters must provide a copy of a lease indicating pets are allowed or contact information for the landlord.
