Meet Jansen

Who do you get when you adopt a Senior Dog? You get a dog who has gone through the puppy stage, one who knows the difference between your remote control and his toy, one who knows that laying by your feet, watching a movie can be even more fun than jumping and twirling in the air. You get a dog who appreciates you for every moment of attention you give them, every ounce of love. You get a dog who can prove to you that, despite all of the old tales, a senior can bond even more than a puppy and a senior can not only learn new tricks but can also teach you a few of his own.

Most of all, you get a dog who had a family that at one time promised them forever but, for whatever reason, let them down. You get a dog who can only hope beyond all hope that someone will come along and see them for the dog they are and not the years they have lived, see them for the time they can give, not that which has already been given to someone else. They can only hope that they find someone who knows that forever is only promised in the number of todays, never in the number of tomorrows and that their new someone will want to share all of their todays with a dog who will give them their soul.

Jansen is one of those Seniors. His sad eyes wander at times, as though he is still searching for that family he can’t seem to find. When his days at the shelter ran out, they contacted Coastal to see if we could help this sweet boy. We couldn’t say no. He joined the Coastal family and has been making new friends. Life in the kennel can be hard on even the youngest of dogs, but for a senior, it can be even harder. That doesn’t mean that the volunteers aren’t trying to make it as special and comfortable as it can be while he waits.

Jansen doesn’t do the long walks that he once may have enjoyed. Yet, his nickname by some of his favorite volunteers is Dancing Jansen. He is so happy to see his friends that he literally does a little hopping jig when he sees them. Just because he doesn’t go for long walks doesn’t mean he doesn’t still have his moves. Others have even compared him to a dressage horse, and while he doesn’t quite know what that means, he can tell from the look on their face when they speak of him that it’s something to be proud of.

Jansen loves nothing more than hanging out with you. His favorite thing to do is relax in the sun with his new best volunteer friends. He loves to follow you around too, just to get the attention he knows you have to offer. Jansen may be a senior, but he still has a lot of life to live, a lot of love to share, and he would love to share that life and love with a new family. He would love to have a home, once again, with a warm soft bed and a family to share his forever. We can’t wait for you to meet this special boy, and we know he can’t wait to meet you.

Don't forget to fill out our online application: http://www.coastalgsrsd.org/webform/1774/adoption-application. The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $400. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is 100%25 tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems. Our adoption process begins with completing an application on-line. A phone screening will soon follow, and lastly a home visit will be conducted by our volunteers.
