URGENT – SHELTER IS OVER CAPACITY ANDTHIS GIRL WAS DIVERTED TO DOWNEY LOCATION, BUT IS NOW BACK AT BALDWIN PARK AS OF 8/23.

Please help us find a chow savvy and forever home, or foster and rescue to save this dear girl. The shelter has named her Janet, and she was allegedly found as a stray in West Covina and brought into the shelter, but her owner has not come forward (or this was the owner who brought her in).

The shelter originally listed this 40 lb girl at 5 months, but has since updated her age to 1 year old. While Janet came in cooperative, the shelter stated she was a little resistant during exam, and thus they were unable to look in her mouth.

Intake notes during exam state, “Crouched, Reluctant to approach Stiff/tense”. She was also muzzled for this exam. The shelter was supposed to spay her but cancelled this when they transferred her back to Baldwin Park location, and now says, “She is not spayed and is pending a behavior assessment due to her medical intake behavior observations: She appears tense, stares hard, and tries to avoid being touched. She is unable to be fully examined due to being scared and sensitive.“

Janet sounds like a typical shy and/or scared chow in a shelter. We do not know if she will pass her behavior assessment or not, and thus, she may need rescue, and a foster, or a foster-to-adopt as she may be made Rescue only. This means she would not be able to be adopted from the shelter directly by a private party, but we can refer qualified homes to rescue groups if needed.

Janet is recommended to a home who has had experience with the breed and shy dogs, and without young children in the home. The shelter may place further restrictions, pending an assessment. Until she has passes an assessment though, and spayed, we do not know if she will be adoptable through the shelter.
Therefore, we are looking for a chow savvy foster or foster-to-adopt we can refer to a rescue group.
