Meet Jalapeno! Jalapeno is described as loving, easy going, obedient and submissive. Fondly nicknamed Jughead for his goofy, carefree vibe, Jalapeno is a very happy boy. He is eager to please and is very respectful of personal space and boundaries. When his foster mom walks into a room, he lights up and is so happy to see her, approaching with his tail wagging for love and affection. He also enjoys snuggling up on the couch or in bed with his people when invited. When his foster mum wipes his paws to come inside, he will lie on his back and show her his belly for rubs. He is so attentive and makes great eye contact with his trusted humans.
His favorite activities include playing fetch with a ball or stick, running in the yard to get his zoomies out and playing with his canine foster siblings. With proper introductions, Jalapeno meets new people politely but can be a bit cautious at first and needs a bit of time to open up. Jalapeno has several canine and cat foster siblings home would do well with most other animals provided proper introductions were made. He’d prefer a home without children.
His ideal family will have:
- Another well-adjusted dog to show him the ropes
- Experience with larger dogs (he may pull when on walks)
- Patience as he adjusts to his new home and learns to trust, as well as a willingness to continue to build his confidence through slow and gentle exposure to new people and situations.
- A fenced yard in a quiet neighbourhood. A condo is also possible with a family willing to meet his active exercise needs.
- No children as he is nervous and will bark
- Ability to meet his exercise needs (he is not a dog park boy)
He is on the higher side of medium energy and would appreciate a 45 min walk morning and night plus backyard play time and potty breaks. Jalapeno does fairly well on leash and likes to meet new dogs when out for walks. He is a strong boy and will need a handler comfortable with his size as he may pull if spooked by a loud noise or when he wants to go home. He is considered a high flight risk and his new family should have an understanding of lost dog prevention.
When his foster mom goes out, Jalapeno is crated and settles immediately. At night he usually sleeps quietly on the couch with the cats or in his bed inside the crate with the door open. Provided he receives consistent potty breaks he is also housetrained.
He is a very smart and obedient boy and knows his name, sit, no, go to your house, go to your bed, come and will sit before his meal and waiting to be released. He is also very respectful inside of the home and could eventually be trusted with free reign.
