Meet Jake
Are you looking for a low-maintenance furry friend? Meet Jake, a 9-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer with a great but independent personality! Jake has had a life where he’s always been loved but has always been super independent. He came into his current home after his original owner passed away. Despite his family's best efforts, Jake just hasn't seemed to find his place there. He prefers to be outside most of the day and is happiest when left to his own devices (sunbathing in the yard!). Jake has his quirks—he's not a fan of beeping sounds, probably due to his experience with invisible fences, and he can be a bit protective of his toys and very special treats, especially around other dogs. Jake currently lives with a lab brother who he plays with sometimes but usually keeps to himself. He's a good boy with a big heart, but he values his space and would prefer to be the only dog in the home, as he can be a bit dominant and bossy.
What Jake Needs:
• A quiet, understanding home where he can have plenty of space and independence.
• A family that’s okay with him spending a lot of time outside. He loves the outdoors and prefers to stay out during the day, coming inside at night.
• Someone patient who understands that Jake needs time to adjust and might have some protective behaviors around his food and toys.
• A family willing to help him shed a few pounds and support his joint health. His current owner has been working on reducing his food intake and cutting back on treats.
Jake’s Best Qualities:
• Jake is VERY sweet toward people even though he is a bit of a loner. If you show him attention he LOVES the love! Will happily accept all belly scratches and pets from people.
• He’s low-energy and doesn’t require a lot of exercise beyond what he gets from being outside.
• Jake will make a loyal companion for someone who appreciates his independent nature.
Jake would do best in a home without other pets where he can relax and enjoy his golden years on his terms. If you have the right environment for this strong-willed yet sweet boy and are willing to offer him the space and understanding he needs, Jake might just be the perfect match for you.
