Meet Jake
This handsome young guy is Jake. He came to us as an owner surrender when his owner realized she was unable to meet Jake's exercise, training, and structure needs. If you think of owning a GSD as a working partnership, where you and the dog strive to make the dog the best he can be and form a rock solid bond, Jake is your guy.
Jake will require an owner that is experienced with the breed or with dogs like him. We do not recommend a home with young kids - he's a large goofy dog and is sometimes mouthy, but older dog savvy kids might be ok.
He may do best as a one person dog, but can also do well with several handlers so long as there is clear consistency in structure and expectations. Jake has been working hard on socialization and deconditioning, but is still a little unsure when it comes to new scenarios.
Prior to coming to SGSDR, Jake lived in a home with cats and did well. He can also be around other dogs.
Jake has completed a full board and train with a local professional dog trainer and has mastered all his obedience commands. Adopters will have the chance to meet Jake with the trainer present and go over what he's learned and what he needs in his new home.
As for the special needs - like many German Shepherds, this boy can have a sensitive stomach. He was treated for suspected IBD with a prescription diet (Purina EN) and a tapering dose of prednisone. Since then, he's rebounded beautifully. With a controlled and consistent diet, he has required no further medications and will do well in his forever home on his current feeding plan.

He's young, and could go in so many directions. The trainer describes him as "not a hard dog, just one that needs good structure and communication." *Dogs and puppies 12 months old or younger: $400
* Adult dogs over 12 months of age: $350
* Senior dogs over 7 years of age qualify for our "Seniors FUREVER" program! Seniors are special to us, so we offer two options:
(1) If your heart has a special place for the seniors, you can adopt a senior dog for the regular adoption fee of $350 and this becomes a perpetual fee. You can adopt another SGSDR senior dog at any time from us in the future at NO CHARGE.
(2) If you aren't sure about your future adoption capacity, you may adopt your SGSDR senior dog for a reduced adoption fee of $250.
