Meet Jake

Jake is mellow, cuddly and the perfect companion to snuggle up with on the couch while watching TV. We are estimating he is about eight years old, so he does not need a ton of exercise which makes him a great fit for any size house or apartment. Jake sat in the shelter for months, having no real reason to stand out; he was passed over time and again for younger more pushy dogs. Once we got him home to our house for foster care, we realized what a special dog Jake really is. He has an old soul, and seems to understand more about life than your average dog. Life may not have been kind to Jake up to this point, as his body shows some signs of wear and hard times, but his spirit is completely intact! Right off the bat, he is loving to everyone he meets, canine and human alike. It has been our pleasure to have him in foster care at our home!

Recently, Jake went to the vet where we learned Jake has a leaky heart valve or what they are calling Chronic Compensated Mitral Valve Disease. At this time the condition is mild, with no meds indicated, but this is a chronic progressive disease. Jake will need to have this rechecked in 4-6 months with another cardiac ultrasound. Jake has a “guardian angel” or “benefactor” who has generously offered to pay for Jake’s ongoing Cardiac Ultrasounds FOR LIFE, even after he is adopted!! Jake is also very hard of hearing. We know he’s not completely deaf, because he can hear car horns outside, but we need to clap or yell loudly to get his attention, even if we are right next to him inside

What this means from a rescue perspective is that we will need to find a very special person to adopt Jake. That person will need to have a soft spot for senior dogs, and in the meantime we will work on fattening him up and giving him lots of love and snuggles. Jake is just the sweetest, most snuggly old man I have ever met. He is super low energy and really just wants to curl up with someone and snooze the day away!

Are you looking for a charming, mellow best friend? Then, Jake may be your man!

Jake’s adoption donation is $100. If you would like to know more about Jake, please call me, Heather Gutshall, Jake’s foster mom at 401.338.2590 and complete an adoption application at http://www.pawsnewengland.com/adoption-form/ and someone will contact you ASAP.
