Meet Jada

Meet sweet Jada, a 2 year old Mastiff mix who is looking for a special someone to adopt a dog as special as she is.

Jada had a bit of a rough start to life. After being taken in by Pet Haven, we realized she had a previously broken leg which had healed incorrectly. The good news is that she had surgery to correct it, and now the bones in her leg are all healed up. She is currently doing at home physical therapy exercises to build up her muscles in her leg, but she is walking and running like a champ.

Jada is all about relationships and trust. Once she trusts you, oh my… she is the sweetest dog in the world. She’ll let you dremel her nails and brush her teeth with ease, is good in the bath and car, and has awesome recall. She loves to cuddle and give kisses.

She has average to high energy, but tires out quickly. She will be your best friend. That said, she is very weary/fearful of new people (especially men) and new environments. We are working with a trainer to get her more comfortable with meeting new people. She warms up much faster to women than men. We’ll be able to give her adoptive family tips on this process. Because of her uncomfortableness with new people, she’d do best in a quieter home with fewer visitors. Jada is looking for a home with no kids and would love a consistent routine.

She is kennel trained, and will happily go in it for a treat. She is crated when we leave the house, and she is very quiet other than when she hears the postal carrier come. She is also potty trained, except for some submissive urination when her owners come home. As long as she’s taken outside right away, then it’s not an issue.

She loves and lives to play! Tug and chase are her favorite games to play. She also is on the easier side to train. She knows: come, stay, sit, down, shake, go to bed, hand targeting, off, drop and heel. She is getting much better at waiting for permission to go on the couch, and for waiting for permission at the door before going outside or coming inside. She pulls slightly on a leash (we use a head halter), but it’s not bad.

In the past, she has played with a dog and a puppy and matched their play styles. If there’s another dog in the home, it would be best if the dog was very friendly and didn’t have anxiety. Jada can be fearful and jumpy at times, so it would be nice for her to take cues from a more confident dog. The intro to another dog should be done very slowly in order to ensure success. Otherwise, she would be just fine as the only dog in the house. She has met a cat once, and tried to chase it, so she would probably do best in a house without cats.

Because of Jada’s fearfulness, she will need a little time to transition to her new home. We are looking for someone to be patient and to give her proper time to adjust and will continue to give her the training she will need in order to be a happy dog.

Her adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, & Bordetella), HW and flea/tick preventative, and microchip implant and registration.

There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best guess.

Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.

Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 75-mile radius of the Minneapolis, MN city center.
