Jackie American Bully Mix Alexandria, VA

Are you looking for this cutest hippo there ever was? This 40 something lb meatball would love nothing more than to find her people. She’s managed to be in foster care since early November when she was surrendered to us for a second experience of dystocia (obstructed labor) when her “owners” could no longer afford the emergency care she needed to remove the babies and entail an emergency spay. Our team was pretty excited when we learned that 2 of her babies were breathing upon the emergency spay but sadly succumbed just 1 day later as they had suffered lack of oxygen for far too long before Jackie received care.

Jackie went into a state of depression while healing and was not handling the loss of her puppies well. Jackie became avoidant of males and very reluctant of strangers. We allowed her weeks of decompression in a quiet home before we felt Jackie was ready.

Jackie lives with another dog and 2 young children. Her trust seems to blossom with young girls and while she can still be quite fearful of some men initially, she has proven that she can overcome those fears and be the loving girl we knew she was. She recently has been interacting with more people and dogs and has been doing wonderful.

Jackie had a sad beginning but we are hopeful that there is a quiet and nurturing home for her out there. She wouldn’t mind a playmate either. While we were told she was good with cats, we have not personally cat tested her.
