Meet Jack Nicholas
We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Jack Nicholas, 1yr old neutered male, lab mix, 60 pounds. Jack is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!
Jack is your standard issue Labrador pup: high energy, smart and silly, playful and enthusiastic, and likely to take another year to "settle down." His foster notes she's never seen him stand still when not in his kennel and he's only quiet when in his crate sleeping or chewing on a bone. :)
Jack is just out of his puppy-years and because of that, needs training to grow into a mature adult. His ideal home would look forward to the task of training Jack into the best, most loyal family companion out there. He has a habit of jumping up on people but is getting better. One easy way of correcting this behavior is by ignoring him entirely - turning your back, not acknowledging him at all, and being quiet.
Jack is very high energy and is a big guy with room (and time) yet to grow. He enjoys playing rough and tumble with his daddy & mama, and takes correction from them well. When walking on a leash by other dogs, Jack doesn't wag his tail - he wags his whole body!
Jack is fully house and crate trained, and has lots of experience on a leash, as his foster mom takes him for walks 5 times a day! Jack needs improvements on his leash skills and would likely benefit from a Gentle Leader head collar or harness to alleviate his pulling and side-winding.
Jack has not exhibited any signs of separation anxiety but he's not yet been allowed loose while unsupervised because of his youth and immaturity. In his kennel, Jack is calm but as soon as you open the gate, he is a leaping frog! Then when you give him a toy - watch him RUN!
We have no history with cats, nor much interaction with kids and given his very high energy level, we would not advise any home with children under the age of 10yrs as he may inadvertently knock them over. In general, we recommend homes with kids who are able to understand and respect animal behavior cues.
Labs make fantastic family pets but do require a lot of mental and physical stimulation. Jack deserves an adopter who may have breed experience or is up to the task of having a dog probably equally as smart as they are. He'd appreciate another dog in the home, lots of activities for exercise and socialization, and maybe some older kids to chase him around in the yard.
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
