Meet JACK!

MEET JACK!

This uber handsome blockhead joined us here at City of Elderly Love after spending a month at Philly's animal control shelter. Jack's story is a bit confusing but we understand that he was "lost" in a local Philly park, brought to the shelter where he was found to be microchipped. An ex of Jack's owner was contacted who then picked him up and returned him to his original home only to be surrendered back to the shelter by his owner the very next day. One thing is for sure, Jack deserves better!

Jack is around 10 years old but age is but a number. He has great energy, looooves to play (especially with his younger golden retriever foster sister), and can even go on runs with his foster family! Jack is well-behaved with some quirks because no one is perfect. He knows basic commands like sit, paw, and down. He'll steal your heart by sitting, giving you BOTH paws then stealing a kiss! Jack is a toy destroyer. He LOVES to rip them apart. Jack will sometimes take an item he shouldn't be playing with and will "guard" them by avoiding you and letting out grumbles but you can easily trade him the item he shouldn't have with a dog toy he can have. Jack will also guard his food bowl so it's best that he doesn't "free feed" and have set meal times where he can be fed in his own space. Jack pretty much loves all attention and does great with all body handling. He even lets us trim his nails without issue.

Jack is currently living with large dogs and pays too much attention to smaller dogs and cats and shows prey drive around small animals like squirrels and rabbits so we recommend he not live with smaller animals. He has loved meeting kids while with the rescue and gets so excited to interact with them! Because he has some guarding tendencies and has a big, strong "happy tail" which will knock into everything around him when he's excited, we recommend he not live with small children. Jack gets along famously with the other large female dog in his foster home but doesn't jive with the other large male dog in his foster home. We think he'd do well with another laid-back and easy going female dog.

Jack has been fully vetted since leaving the shelter and is in great health! All-in-all, Jack is a great dog who will be an easy addition to the right family and just needs some structure and boundaries to keep his guarding behaviors in check.

Jack is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
